Schwarz (Die Anfänge der Lithographie in Österreich), 155, 5.2.Der Architektur- und Dekorationsmaler und Lithograph Antonio de Pian erhielt seine künstlerische Ausbildung in Venedig und Wien und zeigt sich in seinem Frühwerk von den Architekturcapriccios Canalettos beeinflusst. 1821 wurde er in der österreichischen Hauptstadt zum Hoftheatermaler ernannt. Das druckgraphische Werk, das insgesamt fünfzehn Lithographien zählt, entstand vorwiegend in den Jahren 1820-21. Ganz im Einklang mit dem herrschenden Zeitgeschmack spielt das Stilprinzip des "Pittoresken" eine eminente Rolle in de Pians Ikonographie und veranschaulicht die romantische Sehnsucht nach vergangenen Epochen. Die mit einer Kombination aus Kreide- und Federlithographie geschaffene Darstellung ist selten und gehört zu einer Folge von fünf Blättern nach eigener Erfindung de Pians, deren Veröffentlichung 1820 in Schorn's Kunst-Blatt (Morgenblatt für gebildete Stände) verzeichnet wurde. Unverkennbar ist der Einfluss der druckgraphischen Arbeiten von de Pians Zeitgenossen Karl Friedrich Schinkel und Karl Blechen. - Ausgezeichneter, gegensatzreicher Druck mit der Signatur und schmalem Rand.
