A Roman mosaic glass half inlay of a female 'New Comedy' theatre mask Circa 1st Century B.C.-1st Century A.D.The opaque white mask with thin blue lines delineating the nose and eye, red open mouth, the elaborate coiffure of two long red ringlets, the third ringlet wrapped with pearls, the hair piled on the top of the head with further pearl ornament and a diadem with yellow and green leaf pendants, set in a blue matrix, 2.6cm x 1cmFootnotes:Provenance:With L'Art Ancien, Montreal, 1989.This small plaque originally came from a much longer bar, from which slices with identical images would have been cut, with two slices used to create a full face that were then used to adorn small decorative items and furniture. A GOLD COLOURED 'DEAREST' GEM SET SCENT BOTTLEThe gold coloured cylindrical bottle with a star set rhodolite garnet and old European cut diamond cluster top, the sides of the lid set with various gem stones spelling out DEAREST and engraved M.M.B, the collar engraved Dec 25th 1893, the glass lined base with a diamond accented detail and engraved with the initials S.N., unmarked8cm (3in) high85.7g grossCondition Report: The collar doesn't quite sit straight on the base, it looks like it has been possibly put back on to the bottle.
