A late Regency mahogany secretaire bookcase, with cut brass inlay, having a pair of bar glazed doors above a base having a secretaire drawer above a pair of panel doors, enclosing two short and two long drawers, 130 cm wide See illustration Condition report Report by RB From a Somerset country house, from which the client is down-sizing and moving. Very much in a market fresh condition, it would now require some repairs and restoration and patches. One pane of glass (to the right of the right hand door). No door locks to the glazed doors. Slight splitting and staining to the front of the glazed doors, the secretaire pull out drawer has a later green baize inset top, and contains numerous pieces of veneer and strips of wood from this piece. The leaf carved scroll to the right of the secretaire is present, but loose in the drawer, although in the illustration, you will see this attached to it. The pair of panelled doors are veneered, with some of the veneer now missing and detached, although some will be in the secretaire drawer loose, and they open to reveal the drawers with quite nice and substantial handles, on hairy paw feet, which have some loss, probably caused by over enthusiastic vacuum cleaners over the years. There are no shelves currently. Overall, quite imposing and attractive with the cut glass inlay, now requiring some repair and restoration. Approx. 235 cm high Secretaire drawer contains missing section of moulding from above left foot as you look at it and carved decorative support to right of secretaire drawer as you look at it. Some other sections of veneer but not enough to complete missing areas.
