Margaret Geddes, The Crocodile, oil on canvas (cut down), signed and dated '54,44cm x 64cm,mounted, framed and glazed 57x78cm.Provenance:Redfern Gallery, London, partial label verso.Condition report:The canvas has simply been cut (quite crudely in this case) off from the original stretcher, and the cut canvas is simply laid in a frame with a basic card mount and held in place by the backboard against the glass. If there is any loss to the image it would appear to be minimal. The Redfern Gallery label has been sellotaped to the back of the canvas. The paint is flaking to the sky and to the blues of the sea surrounding the figures, most evidently to the top left corner. To the extremities, there are shadows and dirt suggesting where the work was perhaps originally framed or stretchered. The surface is quite dirty and grubby throughout.
