A SUMERIAN CUNEIFORM CLAY TABLET, Thirty Silos of Barley of The Temple of E. Halub, circa 2000 B.C. 3 x 3cm The earliest surviving form of writing known to us is that devised by the Sumerian People who lived in Southern Iraq. By chance looking through a book catalogue sent to me by Andrew Stewart from Cornwall, I came upon a small clay tablet, the inscription on which just leaped out at me. It read as follows: "Official administrative receipt acknowledging thirty silo of barlet by the Temple E-Halub from the son of |Nin(ian)- Lamm and Ir-Anniku" dated circa 2000 BC. Tony notes that he gave it to Annie with the following note at Christmas 2004: "When you take into your hand this Sumerian Cuneiform Clay Tablet from the time of Abraham. Anni and her son then living in Ur in Mesopotamia link up over a span of 4000 years with Annie and her son now living in Dalkey." It has been preserved and presented in a Galway cut glass heart-shaped box decorated in traditional style on the top cover. Provenance: The estate of Tony Sweeney
