A German .800 standard silver mounted clear-glass tapering claret jug and hinged stopper. The tapering glass body engraved with flowers and leaves above a broad fluted section and a narrow diamond-cut band, the mount with a scroll handle, the shaped spout with hinged and knotted stopper, a moulded border and engraved with a presentation inscription in German as a special prize for a dog shown in Linz, Austria in 1889, the German 800 standard marks, 31cm highProvenanceBy family repute this jug formerly belonged to Charles Cruft (1852-1938), the founder of the World Famous Dog show first held first at the Royal Agricultural Hall, Islington in 1891. Having no desire to join the family jewellery business, in 1876 he joined James Spratt in a new venture in Holborn, London selling 'Dog cakes'. Over the following years he travelled extensively in Europe and the United Kingdom as General Manager of Spratts (Dogs Biscuits) in order to better understand the needs and the market in his chosen field. It is thought this jug was given during this period. Condition Report: Overall in good condition. Some small chips to the glass at the point at which the glass and silver connects. Tarnishing to the metal. No obvious cracks. Signs of wear including light scratches consistent with age and usage.

A George VI Silver and Enamel-Mounted Dressing-Table Service, by Albert Carter, Birmingham, 1948 and 1950 with pink and white enamel geometric designs on an engine-turned ground, comprising two silver-mounted cut-glass dressing-table jars with tapering finials, one with differing enamel; a pair of hair-brushes; a pair of clothes-brushes and a hand-mirrorthe hand-mirror 29cm long (7)Each piece is marked as expected. The marks are generally clear. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. There is some damage to the ename on the handles of the hair brushes at the top of each handle. The enamel on the cover of two boxes differ slightly.
An Elizabeth II Silver and Enamel-Mounted Dressing-Table Service, by Albert Carter, Birmingham, 1958 and 1959 each enamelled in vari-coloured green on an engine-turned ground, comprising a cut-glass dressing-table jar; a shaped oblong jewellery-box; two hair-brushes; two clothes-brushes; a hand-mirror and a comb; Together With a matching silver plate and enamel scent-bottle with gilt-metal mounts the hand-mirror 28.5cm long (9)Each piece except the scent-bottle is marked as expected. The scent-bottle is apparently unmarked. There is some minor wear to the marks. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. There is some bruising to some pieces. The bristles on the hair and clothes brushes worn and somewhat discoloured. There is some soiling inside the box and some unevenness to the base as can be seen in the images. The teeth of the comb are broken with many lacking.

Five pieces of silver and silver plate:1. a late 19th century silver-plated double inkwell by WMF: two-lidded facet-cut cranberry glass inkwells flanking a central pen-rest modelled as a stag's head;2. a miniature early 19th century Sheffield-plated chamber stick with gadrooned border,;3. a cased set of six hallmarked silver coffee spoons by Jackson & Fullerton (1897);4. a small early 20th century hallmarked silver brandy-warmer with turned ebony handle;5. an early 19th century hallmarked silver Fiddle Pattern caddy spoon engraved with armorial.Condition Report: 1st glass inkwell - one of the lids lifts off silver-plate rather pitted and there is corrosion to the copper mount on the glass inkwell, otherwise in good order. 2nd inkwell - less problematical under the lid but some plate is missing. Glass on 2nd inkwell in good condition. Brandy warmer - quite tarnished but no dents noted or evidence of restoration.
