A pair of 19th century silver plated grape scissors with pierced reeded and scrolling vine handles, together with a 19th century cut glass and silver plate sugar dredger, a matched set of six silver plated dessert knives and forks with carved bone handles etc. (qty) * Provenance: Bearing the crest of the Baker family of Bayfordbury, built by Sir William Baker MP (1705-1770) and inherited by Sir Robert Baker, lawyer & Treasurer of the Middle Temple, 1832 and Sheriff, who by repute, prevented the possible rioting at the funeral of Queen Caroline of Brunswick in 1821. His son, Henry Baker was architect of various important buildings in St. Pancras, Holborn and Baker Street, London. He was presented with this silver salver and is reputed to be the Baker from which Baker Street derives its name.
An Edwardian silver desk stand John Grinsell & Sons, London 1902, of rounded oblong form with reeded naturalistic handles, raised on four ball and paw feet, complete with the two original cut glass inkwells with hinged silver covers, 9¾in. (25cm.) long, total silver weight 16oz., one cover loose.
