Courvoisier Cognac Trois Etoiles Luxe. c1960's. It has a neck label BY APPOITMENT purveyors of Cognac Brandy to THE LATE KING GEORGE VI COURVOISIER LTD. The original stand in the form of a cannon craddle. Courvoisier Cognac Trois Etoiles Luxe. c1960's. It has a neck label BY APPOITMENT purveyors of Cognac Brandy to THE LATE KING GEORGE VI COURVOISIER LTD. The original stand in the form of a cannon craddle. Courvoisier is a brand of cognac, with production based in the town of Jarnac in the Charente region of France. It is the youngest and smallest of the ""big four"" cognac houses. In 1835, Frenchman Emmanuel Courvoisier started a wine and spirit company in the Parisian suburb of Bercy with Louis Gallois, then the mayor of Bercy. Originally, the pair would act as traders for the best cognacs of the region. Eventually they decided that the only way they could guarantee the very finest cognac was relocate to the region and become producers themselves. The 200-year-old crafting process has not changed since Courvoisier's establishment in Bercy.Napoleon Bonaparte visited Bercy in 1811 as documented in a historic painting by Etienne Bouhot, and later was credited with saying he wanted his artillery companies to have a ration of cognac during the Napoleonic Wars. Legend has it that Napoleon I later took several barrels of cognac with him to St Helena, a treat much appreciated by the English officers on the ship, who named it ""the Cognac of Napoleon"". In 1869, Napoleon Bonaparte's heir Napoleon III personally requested Courvoisier and bestowed the honourable title of ""Official Supplier to the Imperial Court"" which is still displayed at the Courvoisier museum in Jarnac. In 1828, Felix Courvoisier and Jules Gallois, the sons of Emmanuel and Louis, wanted to improve the quality of cognac, moving the company to the heart of the Cognac region in the town of Jarnac. After Felix's passing in 1866, his nephews, the Curlier brothers, took over the management of the business. By 1909, the business was sold to the Simon family from England, but still maintained its production and headquarters in the Jarnac region.Located ten minutes from the town of Cognac, the main Courvoisier business operations still operate from the Ch?teau on the banks of the Charente river which was established in the 1870s. Courvoisier sources eaux-de-vie from the following crus to create its blends: Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Borderies and Fin Bois. The harvest season begins in October, followed up by distillation from November to March. Courvoisier cognac is aged in barrels handmade from 200-year-old oak sourced from the Tron?ais forest in France.Courvoisier headquarters are still stationed in Jarnac, about ten minutes from the Cognac region. Courvoisier is run from the original Ch?teau Felix Courvoisier and Jules Gallois moved to in 1828. Today, the Courvoisier Ch?teau has a boutique and museum, offering private tastings and exclusive tours. The museum features several items linked to Napoleon I.

James Pollard (1792 - 1867)The Gold Cup at Doncaster (1839)Oil on canvasJames Pollard exhibited his works at the Royal Academy between 1821 and 1839, and at the British Institution between 1824 and 1844. He was the son of the Newcastle-born engraver and print publisher Robert Pollard (1755/6-1839), a pupil of Richard Wilson. He was trained as a painter and engraver by his father and also received instruction from the wood engraver Thomas Bewick, his father’s friend, also a Newcastle man. Pollard grew up in Islington, London, working for the family firm as a draughtsman and engraver. Living on a main coaching route undoubtedly influenced his choice of coaching scenes as his primary subject matter; he was particularly valued for his historical accuracy in evoking the spirit of the coaching age. In 1821, an event occurred that altered Pollard’s future. The King’s print seller Edward Orme commissioned Pollard to paint an inn signboard, showing a mail coach with horses and passengers. This signboard was first displayed in Orme’s Bond Street shop window, where it was seen by the Austrian Ambassador Prince Esterházy, who ordered a replica on canvas. Pollard was then promptly established as a painter of equestrian scenes in addition to coaches, and his rise to prominence began. Dimensions:(Canvas) 24 in. (H) x 54.5 in. (W)(Frame) 31 in. Giambologna, um 1529 Douai – 1608 Florenz, nachVERGOLDETE BRONZESTATUE DES HERKULESHöhe: 42,5 cm. Höhe moderner Holzsockel: 10 cm.Italien, wohl Florenz, 17. Jahrhundert. (1360162) (11)Giambologna, ca. 1529 Douai – 1608 Florence, afterGILT-BRONZE STATUETTE OF HERCULESHeight: 42.5 cm. Height of modern wooden base: 10 cm.Italy, probably Florence, 17th century.Cast after a model by Giambologna. The artist, who was born in the Habsburg Netherlands and commenced his training in Antwerp, is one of the most important sculptors of Italian Mannerism and was predominantly active for the Medici. The main feature of his works is always the movement of his figures in the style of the “figura serpentinata”, i.e. the twisted posture. This is also the concept of the present statuette of Hercules. He is standing, legs wide apart in agitated movement, one arm stretched forward with the left hand opened, while his right hand swings the club. The muscular body is shown naked in the spirit of antiquity. His face is bearded with a ribbon in his hair. Giambologna´s Hercules with the Centaur held at the Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence shows a similar posture and overall concept. Solid bronze casting, cast with mounting pegs on the soles of the feet. Fire-gilt, with partial age-related rubbing. Notes:A similar example is held at the Museo Bargello in Florence.
