WILLIAM LISTER & SONS; a Victorian hallmarked silver spirit kettle and stand, with part gadrooned oval body, ebonised handle and finial, length 25cm, the stand on cabriole legs with paw feet, London 1895, with associated spirit warmer by James & Nathaniel Creswick, London 1853, total height 31.5cm, approx 52ozt.Additional InformationGenerally in good order apart from some tarnish and minor surface wear and dirt commensurate with age, both bolts where the spirit kettle is attached to stand are stiff.

A 19th century Calvert style ivory chess set, red stained and natural, well turned, the king 10.3cm. high, the pawns 4.3cm. high. (complete); together with a 19th century mahogany cased travelling chess set with red stained and natural ivory pieces, the board 9¼in. (23.5cm.) square; and a 19th century Chinese export chinoiserie lacquered folding chess / backgammon board. (3), *Condition:- Chess set: One white bishop with small chip to mitre. Old glue to threaded joint below one white knight's head. Red queen - worn patch to red stain to ball to top. Two chips to turning on red king. A few tiny frits to collars on pawns. Red pieces have a few rubs and tiny scratches to stained colour. One red knight has heavier wear to detail on head., - Travelling chess set: Very good. Complete. Some rubbing to polish around holes on board squares from placing of pieces during play. Dark spirit stain to wood to border of board in one corner. Exterior has some light scratches and scuffs to surface., - Chinese board: Fair condition - heavy wear to lacquer to exterior and chips/flakes to edges. Interior has some gilt wear and large crack across lacquer to one side. Lacks catch to keep closed.

ROGER FRY (1866-1934) FOR OMEGA WORKSHOPS PAIR OF PAINTED DINING CHAIRS, CIRCA 1913 painted in pale grey, the arched toprail pierced with nine roundels above caned seat, back and arms on square legs, bears maker's marks (2) 45cm wide, 109cm high, 41cm deep Provenance: Lady Dorothy Wellesley, Penns-in-the-Rocks Literature: The Studio, August 1930, pp. 142/3 Anscombe, Isabelle 'Omega and After: Bloomsbury and the Decorative Arts', London, 1981, pp. 134/5, fig. 39 Note: Duncan Grant and Vanessa Bell carried on their decorative work through the twenties, developing and in many ways drawing on their earlier Omega experience. The Omega Workshops, which had been set up to execute the group's designs had been closed in 1919 but the Omega spirit continued to flourish. The chairs in the current lot were part of a 1929 project by the Omega Interior Design Company for the dining room at Penns-in-the-Rocks, home of Lady Dorothy Wellesley. Grant later recalled it as 'the best thing we did' and the commission was well-received and featured in the Studio magazine of 1930. It was there described to be an 'effect...of iridescence', with six large painted panels alternating with rectangles of colour amidst tones of pale grey and green.

The Lonach range of bottlings are created from the marriage of under-strength spirit from casks with an abv which has dropped below 40% and others with a strength above 40% bringing the aggregate to above 40%, thus allowing the product to be sold as Scotch Whisky.
