Giuseppe Croce - a mahogany wheel barometer, signed G Croce, York, circa 1840/50, the case with swan neck pediment and boxwood stringing to the borders, hygrometer, thermometer box, circular mirror, 8-inch silvered dial, spirit level dial signed, 96 cm high. Giuseppe Croce is recorded as working in York between 1820-55.
An Omani silver Zar ring, the square base with bead decoration, a silver ring set with a carved red glass disc engraved with a crescent moon and a third khateen abu saith mirabba silver ring (3). The Zar ring is worn by both men and women during special ceremonies to release themselves, their families or possessions from the harmful influence of the spirit Zar. See "Disappearing Treasures of Oman" by Avelyn Forster, figures 81, 83 and 84, pages 85 and 87 for similar examples. Purchased circa 1990 in Oman.
