Shelley (Percy Bysshe) - The Masque of Anarchy, With a Preface by Leigh Hunt, first edition , half-title, advertisement leaf at end, some light spotting and soiling, a few pencil markings, original boards, uncut, rubbed and soiled, spine worn and lacking most of backstrip, preserved in later green straight-grain morocco slip-case with pull-off top (spine faded), 8vo, Edward Moxon, 1832. Written following the notorious Peterloo massacre in 1819 for publication in The Examiner , but the editor, Leigh Hunt, thought the public ""had not become sufficiently discerning to do justice to the sincerity and kind-heartedness of the spirit that walked in this flaming robe of verse.
A Victorian hallmarked silver spirit kettle, engraved with a band of square panels depicting animals alternating with Indian mythological figures, the rest overall engraved with Indian style ornamental motifs, with cast finial to the hinged and loop handle with ivory insulators, circular stand raised on four S-scroll shaped legs to cast and engraved feet, Robert & William Sorley, Glasgow 1889, height 42cm (including stand and handle), approx 62ozt. CONDITION REPORT: Engraved cartouche but no significant damage noted.
