Lot 256

Mel Crawford (Canadian, B. 1925) "Bringing Home the Tree" Signed lower right. Original Mixed Media painting on Illustration Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. Imagine a lone cowboy riding the open range a hundred years ago. He's been chasing stray doggies for two weeks. He's tired, cold, and just a little bit lonely. But tonight it's Christmas Eve, so he hurries into town to pick up some gifts the shopkeeper has been holding for him. Then one last stop along the trail to cut down the little spruce tree he's been keeping his eye on for months. He heads home with his pack horse loaded with Christmas spirit. A light snow is falling and he can see through the flakes a familiar puff of smoke curling up from his cabin. Inside, his family is cooking Christmas dinner and eagerly watching out the window for his return. Christmas in the Old West was very different from Christmas today, and yet it some ways it was very much the same. Image Size: 14 x 12 in. Overall Size: 17.25 x 15 in. Unframed. (B07720)

Lot 263

Shannon Stirnweis (American, B. 1931) "Statue of Liberty" Signed center left. Original Oil painting on Illustration Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. The Lady, the Goddess, Miss Liberty -- she has been called many names, but she has always been the symbol of freedom. Our grand Lady of the Harbor evokes the hopes and dreams of all those who gaze upon her brilliant face and flock to her open shores. The Statue was a gift from France to the people of the United States -- whose striving for liberty and social justice helped inspire the French in their own search for liberty. To help bring the vision of the statue to reality, the French government enlisted the help of a young sculptor, Frederic Auguste Bartholdi. Initially given the name Liberty Enlightening the World, Bartholdi envisioned the statue to embody the everlasting spirit of Liberty, which would serve as an inspiration for all nations, for all peoples, for all times. After experimenting with several models, Bartholdi revealed the statue in her final form: a serene but forceful woman in classical garb, with an upheld torch of freedom, a crown of radiant light, with chains of bondage broken at her feet, and a sacred tablet inscribed with the date of the Declaration of Independence. Since her dedication in 1886, the Statue of Liberty has stood proudly in New York Harbor, beckoning the thousands of immigrants from faraway lands to her free and prospering shores. The story of over one hundred million Americans literally cannot be told apart from the story of the Statue of Liberty. Image Size: 13.25 x 16 in. Overall Size: 18.25 x 22 in. Unframed. (B10324)

Erik Nitsche (Swiss, 1908 - 1998) "Three Legs of Man Sculpture" Signed lower right. Original Mixed Media painting on Illustration Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting is the original painting which was published on the Fleetwood First Day Cover for the Isle of Man Europa 1987 Modern Art - Architecture stamp issued April 29, 1987. On the pastoral southeastern shore of the Isle of Man lies one of the Isle's main ports of entry, the modern Ronaldsway Airport. Set amid pastures reminiscent of the English Lake District, Ronaldsway welcomes thousands of tourists to the Isle. Proud of their Manx heritage, the Isle's citizens felt some unique symbol of their heritage should welcome visitors to Man especially during the Isle's Millennium Year which took place in 1979. After holding a design competition, artist Bryan Kneale was commissioned to complete his winning entry, a free-standing sculpture entitled Three Legs of Man, which now stands just outside the airport. The sculpture depicts the traditional emblem of the Isle of Man which symbolizes the Manx spirit of independence and determination. Image Size: 14 x 12 in. Overall Size: 20 x 15 in. Unframed. Lot 506

John Swatsley (American, B. 1937) "Best Friend of Charleston Locomotive" Signed lower left. Original Watercolor painting on Illustration Board painting. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting is the original which appeared on the Fleetwood First Day Cover for the U.S. 22c Best Friend of Charleston stamp issued October 1, 1987. As railroads came to be built, American ingenuity and spirit took over, and the design and production of locomotives in this country soon became reality. While sail cars and horse drawn entities were not unknown, it was the experimental steam engine which quickly fired the imagination of the nation's mechanically-minded entrepreneurs. The Charleston & Hamburg Line had as its chief engineer Horatio Allen, who in 1829 had designed the "Stourbridge Lion" -- America's first operational locomotive. The success of the imported Lion gave Allen the encouragement he needed to attempt an American-made version. Thus, the first American-built steam locomotive was produced at the West Point Foundry and was named, "Best Friend of Charleston." In December of 1830, it became the first locomotive ever to pull a train of cars by steam power along American railroad tracks. And one month later, the six-mile railroad began formal operation hauling some two hundred guest passengers, most of whom were shareholders and their families, at a speed of twenty-one miles per hour, and marking its progress by intermittent explosions from a small Army field gun, specially requisitioned for the trip. Later, the two hundred guests were replaced by a much more realistic number -- forty to fifty -- of paying customers who traveled the Charleston & Hamburg Line. Image Size: 13.75 x 12 in. Overall Size: 20.25 x 18 in. Unframed. (B10102)

1997 Bentley Turbo R Long Wheelbase Transmission: automaticMileage:13500Based on the Mulsanne chassis, the Bentley Turbo R was built to be a serious high-performance machine, and like its predecessor, this Bentley had a turbocharged engine, however, the R was more highly tuned and a touch sportier. With Bosch fuel-injection increasing torque levels, uprated suspension, anti-roll bars, and superior dampers, the Bentley Turbo was surprisingly nimble for a car of its size and fitted with a 6750cc V8 capable of 135mph, it was a real performer in a straight line too. Rave reviews in the press helped dealers move the Turbo R in relatively substantial numbers, one report by Motor Trend described it as ‘The first Bentley in decades deserving of that famous name’. The suspension changes, though seemingly subtle, transformed the heavy car into a real performer and slotted above the Bentley Mulsanne S and Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit and it carved a well-deserved niche in the world of performance saloons. This exceptional H.R. Owen supplied Bentley Turbo R Long Wheelbase has only covered 13,500 miles from new. Registered on 1st January 1997, the first owner, being chauffeur driven, had the car for 20 years until 2017 and only covered 13,035 miles. The second owner sent the car to The Chelsea Workshop who carried out a full service and replaced the steering rack all at a cost of £4,400, in his ownership he has added a further 450 miles to the total. Finished in Diamond Blue Silver with Royal Blue hide which has been described as virtually perfect and Burr Walnut wood veneer. A superb service history accompanies P778 MRK and we have been informed that it is driving exceptionally well. This Turbo R Long Wheelbase is supplied with a V5 registration document, an MoT test certificate which expires in March 2022 and a file containing copies of the service history from H.R. Owen, past MoT test certificates, a copy of the build sheets and a copy of The Chelsea Workshop invoices. These magnificent machines were one of the finest ever manufactured at Crewe and are fast becoming recognised as such, and this example is probably the best of the best.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. Buyers are advised to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out this service. Historics will not entertain disputes over descriptions.

Lot 196

2005 Bentley Arnage R Transmission: automaticMileage:51500The Bentley Arnage was launched in 1998, a large luxury saloon car that replaced the previous Bentley Turbo saloon. Built by Bentley Motors in Crewe, England from 1998 to 2009, the Arnage and its Rolls-Royce sibling named the Silver Seraph, were introduced in the Spring of 1998 and were the first entirely new designs for the two marques since 1980 when the Silver Spirit and Mulsanne models were introduced. In 2002, Bentley updated the Red Label as the series two Arnage R. This model was launched to contrast the Arnage T, which was developed to be a more sporty variant. The Arnage R features two Garrett T3 turbochargers fitted to the engine as with the RL. Bentley quote the Arnage R as being an unrivalled example of the Grand Touring philosophy, making every journey a unique experience of power, luxury and control. A place where two very different worlds are perfectly united. Tradition and technology in absolute harmony. This stunning, three previous owner, Peacock Blue example is offered with Cotswold leather interior trim, French Navy secondary hide and carpets. It also has the rare and expensive Centenary door panels; wood veneer inserts to the doors and sits on upgraded 20” Mulliner wheels with new Continental tyres. This example, when new, cost a staggering £164,500 and is presented in stunning order throughout. Boasting an MoT test certificate valid until May 2021, a comprehensive service history including 15 stamps in the service booklet, two keys and the original two umbrellas. Sitting in the rear with the heated rear seats is second only to the front sitting in an environment of stunning aesthetics and fingertip controls. An oasis from which to savour every nuance of the twin-turbocharged 6.75 litre V8 engine, with 400bhp at your command and a 0-60 of 5.9 seconds and a top speed limited to 155mph all in opulent luxury.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. Buyers are advised to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out this service. Historics will not entertain disputes over descriptions.

Lot 211

2014 Renault Megane Renault Sport Trophy RS/S Transmission: manualMileage:1973Imagine a riot in four-wheeled form. While the regular Trophy already sports this car’s uprated 271bhp 2.0-litre turbo petrol and Akrapovic titanium exhaust, the R features expensive Öhlins adjustable dampers, exotic Allevard composite front springs and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres for extra handling. It is also almost 100kg lighter – so although Renault will let you option back the radio for £500 (the price including sat-nav for your trouble) that would be tangential to the spirit of the thing. The standard seats are also entirely absent – the fronts replaced by a gloriously focused pair of fixed-back Recaro buckets, the rears by a strut bar and shopping-saving storage nets. The Trophy-R is surprisingly refined at a cruise. Nail the accelerator, however, and like the R26.R before it, the combination of induction roar and Ti exhaust makes this incredibly distinctive scouring noise. Further popping and banging is also present and correct for all your tarmac rallying fantasy pleasure, the steering weight is meaty and accurate, and you get to change gear with a proper six-speed manual gearbox. Only 30 Trophy-Rs were offered for sale in the UK, out of a total production run of 250 – so it is rare as well as exceptionally rapid. Judged by lap times alone, this is the ultimate expression of Renault sport’s prowess. This superb example of this ‘wolf in sheep’s clothing’ has only covered a mere 1,973 miles from new and is presented in white with a black interior and forms part of a small private collection. The car comes with spare floor mats which are still in their original wrapping, factory ‘set up’ details so you can prepare the car correctly for wet/dry track days etc. As well as the usual Renault factory book packs, this car also comes with a scale sized helmet which is numbered according to the manufacture number of the car. An exhilarating coupé from the French car maker, which will surely require some skill to tame when unleashed upon a circuit. Superb!Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. Buyers are advised to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out this service. Historics will not entertain disputes over descriptions.
