The Convent of the Blessed Sacrament of Our Lady of Luz, from Montemor-o-Novo, was erected in 1760 next to the Church with the same name, built in 1582, which, in turn, gave its name to the fair held in this location since the 16th century, at the beginning of September: Fair of Luz. In 1878, the Convent was abolished, and the building housed the Holy Spirit Hospital, which is still installed there today. Apparently, the constitutions of the nuns of Louriçal were adopted by those of Montemor-o-Novo without any modification. Volume with slight acidity, but very clean, with the first notebook loose. Nineteenth-century binding, entirely made of sheepskin, with blind tooling decoration on the covers, squares and spine; carmine edges.

Artist: Wifredo Lam (Cuban, 1902 - 1982). Title: "Composicion". Medium: Mixed media (Gouache, pastel, and crayon) on paper. Date: Composed 1973. Dimensions: Overall size: 16 1/8 x 12 in. (410 x 305 mm).Lot Note(s): Signed and dated, lower right. Tan wove paper. Very good to fine condition. Provenance: Through the artist Max Ernst; Private collection, Vera Cruz, Mexico. Comment(s): Our example undoubtedly removed from a sketchbook. Lam, like many of the most renowned artists of the 20th century, combined radical modern styles with the "primitive" arts of the Americas. While Diego Rivera and Joaquin Torres-Garcia drew inspiration from Pre-Columbian art, Lam was influenced by the Afro-Cubans of the time. He dramatically synthesized Surrealist and Cubist strategies while incorporating the iconography and spirit of Afro-Cuban religion. Image copyright © The Estate of Wifredo Lam. [30170-3-5000]

1984 Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit Transmission: automaticMileage:80824The Silver Spirit was unveiled in October 1980 as a replacement for the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow. Direct comparison, however, showed only small differences. The new models had slightly grown in length and width; height had been cut a little, although the styling was more modern than that of its predecessor. The interior was dominated by the expected combination of fine wood and sumptuous leather. The Silver Spirit was similar mechanically to the Silver Shadow, benefiting from the superb Rolls-Royce 6,750cc, V8 and sharing many mechanical characteristics of the model it replaced. The instruments were supplemented by digital units which gave such information as the time, elapsed driving time and external temperature and were the first Rolls-Royce to be fitted with a retractable Spirit of Ecstasy.Supplied new in Jersey in 1984, this Rolls-Royce spent its first 18 years on the channel island before coming home to the mainland. The limited use available in Jersey will be the reason for the low mileage for the age of this car. This, and a good service history, is reflected in the stunning condition the car presents in today. The engine bay is immaculate and the car sports four new tyres, an upgraded stereo, stacking CD player, a stainless stell exhaust system, all tools and two sets of keys. The extremely rare Richmond Blue bodywork contrasts well with the magnolia trim piped in blue. The records show that this Spirit has two previous owners. One of whom purchased the car through world famous and well-respected franchised dealer P & A Woods, in fact some of the 15 dealer stamps in the service book are by the well-known dealer from Dunmow, Essex. Supplied to auction with a V5c registration document and a fresh MoT test certificate. Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. Buyers are advised to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out this service. Historics will not entertain disputes over descriptions.
1982 Lamborghini Countach 5000 S Transmission: manualMileage:61840After the groundbreaking Lamborghini Miura stunned crowds at the 1965 Geneva Motor Show with its mid-mounted transverse V-12, it was hard to imagine how designer Marcello Gandini might surpass it. But, in 1971, he did it again with the outrageous LP 400 Countach. It predicated the angular style typical of the 1980s, ten years in advance. The four litre, V-12 generated 375 horsepower, enough to push the car to 180mph. Upwards-hinging ‘scissor doors’ proved a magnetic attraction. The Countach was the stuff of schoolboy dreams, and it evolved constantly: adding vents to aid engine cooling, fender flares for wider tyres, and safety bumpers for the American market. A total of 110 early ‘periscopo’ models were built between 1974 and 1977, with a novel prismatic mirror arrangement to overcome the paucity of rear vision. (Seventy-seven additional examples of the LP 400 were then produced with more conventional mirrors.) The 400S was introduced in 1978, with bumper flares and an optional rear wing. The LP 500S, also known as the 5000S, of 1982 bumped the engine size to almost five litres. This fabulous and rare ‘Supercar’ was purchased by the vendor in July 2000 and was last driven in 2008. In 2004, the vendor had the engine stripped and rebuilt, with a new clutch by Lamborghini London to which there are invoices totally over £10,000 that can be seen in the history file. The vehicle had a new exhaust system fitted at the same time and other works were carried out by Lamborghini, the list of which is too long to list here but all receipts are available to be seen in the history file. The car had an extensive underneath renovation to all accessible chassis areas and a suspension overhaul for which photos can be provided (2005/2006). The car was running fine up to 2008 when it was put into a body shop for a full strip and respray along with interior refurbishment. The car was stripped to the current condition but during the works the company was wound up and the car was then put into storage. For various reasons the car has remained in this stripped state ever since and to the best of our client’s knowledge, the car is complete and a comes with a new windscreen and all the parts that were removed. The car comes with the original handbook and owner records from new and lists nine owners. The car is black with black interior and has the rear wing. Interestingly, it is on the front cover of a book called ‘The Spirit of The Bull’, by Paul W Cockerham and it was also used by Vicky Butler-Henderson for Fifth Gear we believe around the Guildford area prior to the year 2000 while in the ownership of Daniel Sefton.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. Buyers are advised to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out this service. Historics will not entertain disputes over descriptions.
1986 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur Transmission: automaticMileage:34800Before David Plastow left his senior position at Rolls-Royce following the take-over of Vickers plc, he had been responsible for a series of models, amongst which was the Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit. It was unveiled in October 1980 as a replacement for the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow. The coachwork of the Silver Spirit had been designed at the in-house styling centre by Fritz Feller and gave the impression of being stretched in comparison with the bodies of the previous generation. Direct comparison, however, showed only small differences. The new models had slightly grown in length and width; height had been cut a little, although the styling was more modern than that of its predecessor. The interior was dominated by the expected combination of fine wood and sumptuous leather and it was also the first Rolls-Royce to be fitted with a retractable Spirit of Ecstasy. The long-wheelbase version was called the Silver Spur, four inches longer than the Spirit.Originally registered on 29th August 1986 and sold by Jack Barclay ltd, London this splendid example of the Silver Spur is presented in deep Royal Blue with sumptuous Champagne leather trim. Most of its life it was owned by the chairman of United Biscuits and we believe this was his personal car before being registered to his wife. The odometer shows a mere 34,800 miles although paperwork from Jack Barklay in 1988 indicate an early clock change with a true mileage of 47,300, this is a collectable example having been well cared for and is described as a very original untouched car. MoT test certificates show that the car did the majority of its mileage prior to 2006 at which point the car has been MoT’d and serviced but predominantly parked inside a garage. The woodwork inside the cabin is in splendid order and but for usual wear to the drivers bolster, the trim is similarly excellent with the car having been predominantly chauffeur driven. Within the history file is the original book pack, invoices dating back to the purchase in 1988 by Mr. Willet and servicing bills by R.J. Funnel of Tunbridge Wells. A truly original example with incredibly low mileage, this is a very collectable example which we believe spent the majority of its life (over 30 years) being chauffeur driven.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. Buyers are advised to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out this service. Historics will not entertain disputes over descriptions.
