WWII – Ephemera a piece of recovered stone from the wreckage of the House of Commons when it was bombed by German air raids on the night of 10th/11th May 1941. The stone has been formed into a Victory ‘V’ shape and carries a plaque recording that it was from the House of Commons. Rare. The story of this stone is remarkable. The House of Commons sustained 14 separate attacks during WWII – but the most severe was on 10th/11th May 1941 when the Palace of Westminster was severely damaged the Commons chamber was destroyed and three people were killed. Enterprising salvage men recovered some of the stone and fashioned pieces of it into Victory ‘V’ shapes and either donated them to MPs or sold them as souvenirs. The present example was donated to Oliver Locker-Lampson MP. A rare and enduring reminder of the spirit of Londoners during the dark days of the Blitz (plus of course the enduring entrepreneurial spirit of Londoners !)
