The eighteen illustrations which are being offered in 18 lots are the originals of colour illustrations from Spirit Stories for Children retold by Olive Burton and illustrated by Rene Cloke. BIOGRAPHY; Rene Cloke was born in Plymouth in 1905, but spent most of her life in London. Most of her career was as a prolific illustrator of post-cards. She knew Enid Blyton well and illustrated several of her books including some of the Brer Rabbit books, The Adventures of Pip (dust jacket only), The Three Golliwogs, and later Dean editions of The Naughty Amelia Jane, Mr Meddle and Mr Pink-Whistle series, and The Pixieland Story Book (Collins 1966). Her other work included illustrations for Joy Bells published by Juvenile Productions in 1949, Lewis Carroll`s Alice in Wonderland and The Wind in the Willows. She is also the author of several books including Woodland Stories and Before We Go to Bed.

Dining Car`, 8cm high; a Great Western Railway silver plated twin-handled sugar bowl, by Elkington & Co., marked `G.W.R. Hotels`, 7cm high; a Great Western Railway silver plated dessert dish, marked `G.W.R. Hotels`, 7cm high; a Great Western Railway mandal silver spirit measure, size `6`, the base marked `G.W.R. / H. & R.R.D.`, 5.5cm high; a replica Great Western Railway pottery cup, saucer and tea plate, transfer printed `Refreshment Department / G.W.R. / Swindon`; and a silver cigarette case (Chester, 1922), engraved `L.M.S. / 1925`.
A rare and historic model of London, Midland & Scottish Railway (Midland Railway) compound 4-4-0 tender locomotive, 1025, circa 1920, based on the early Johnson design, after the model by E. Coates, this possibly being the only such model surviving (the original was featured in The Model Engineer and Amateur Electrician magazine, Volume 37, June-December 1917), spirit-fired, the copper boiler with cab-fitted sight glass, pressure gauge, regulator and external safety valve, the chassis with twin outside cylinders of 5/8 inch bores, the inside slip eccentric valve gear with valve chest of a type designed by Henry Greenly, the eight wheel tender with double bogies, fitted steps and hand rails, finished in lined maroon livery (restored), 99cm long, 14.5cm wide. A pair of bronzed cast metal book ends, with raised portraits of Charles Lindbergh (1902-74), flanked by an aeroplane and an American eagle, titled to the base edges `The Aviator`, the planished backs marked `Cop[y]r[ight] 1928`, 15.5cm high. Note: These were almost certainly produced to commemorate Lindbergh`s non-stop solo flight from Long Island, New York to Paris in the single-engine monoplane `Spirit of St. Louis`, between 20th and 21st May 1927.
