Grand Cognac 1811 Fine Napoléon (one bottle) 1811 was a legendary year for winemaking in Western Europe. After a succession of poor vintages in the opening years of the century, perfect growing conditions provided by a long hot summer and warm dry autumn produced a spectacular harvest and reputedly the best vintage of the 19th century. The almost mythical status of the 1811 vintage was cemented by the appearance of ‘The Great Comet’ or Flaugergues’ Comet. Discovered by Honoré Flaugergues in March of that year, it was visible to astronomers in our skies for 17 months, however, it came closer to Earth and was clearly visible to the naked eye during the harvest in September and October. Comets have long been associated with excellent vintages; for centuries winemakers ascribed perfect conditions to their appearance in the skies. ‘Comet Vintages’ of wine and the cognac’s made from them have long been held in high esteem, none more so than that of 1811. Furthermore, in 1811 Napoleon visited the town of Cognac, where he was presented with a barrel of the spirit for his newborn son, who would go on to become Napoleon II. Many cognac’s made from the 1811 vintage were labelled as ‘Napoleon Cognac’ when they were bottled, often decades later, signifying their legendary status Little is known of this particular bottle as we can find no record of a producer, we have attempted to provide authenticity of this bottle but the current owner has recieved it by decent, beyond that we have no records and the item is bought at the buyers own risk.
An unusual African Lobi Zoomorphic stool, probably Burkina Faso, 20th Century, set on three legs, with a combination man and birds head terminal, 46cm long This stool has significant patination and it would appear to be of some age, I would suggest first half 20th century is likely. Stools of this type become associated with the spirit of their owner and following death are used as a means to communicate between generations in this African culture. This stool relates in design to similar pieces made by the Lobi master carver Sikire Kanbire of Gaoua.

ES28c Marquis D'Auverge Signed Nancy Wake S. O. E. & Henri Tardivat resistance leader arquis D'Auverge Special Signed Nancy Wake GM S. O. E. & Henri Tardivat resistance leader and one of the first to meet Nancy Wake. In 1935, she met wealthy French industrialist Henri Edmond Fiocca, whom she married on November 30, 1939. She was living in Marseille, France when Germany invaded. After the fall of France, she became a courier for the French Resistance and later joined the escape network of Captain Ian Garrow. The Gestapo called her the "White Mouse". The Resistance had to be very careful with her missions as her life was in constant danger and the Gestapo were tapping her phone and intercepting her mail. By 1943, she was the Gestapo's most-wanted person, with a 5 million-franc price on her head. When the network was betrayed in December 1943, she had to flee Marseille. Her husband Henri stayed behind where later, unknown to Nancy, he would be captured, tortured and executed by the Germans. [1] Nancy had been arrested in Toulouse, but was released four days later. Her sixth attempt to cross the Pyrenees to Spain succeeded. She went to Britain and joined the Special Operations Executive. On the night of April 29-30, 1944, Nancy Wake parachuted into the Auvergne and became a liaison between London and the local maquis group headed by Captain Henri Tardivat. She coordinated resistance activity prior to the Normandy Invasion and recruited more members. She also led attacks on German installations and local Gestapo HQ in Montluçon. From April 1944 to the complete liberation of France, her 7000 maquisards fought 22, 000 SS soldiers, causing 1400 casualties. [citation needed] Her French companions, especially Henri Tardivat, praised her fighting spirit; amply demonstrated when she killed an SS sentry with her bare hands to prevent him raising the alarm during a raid. During a 1990s television interview, when asked what had happened to the sentry who spotted her, Wake simply drew her finger across her throat. On another occasion, in order to replace codes her wireless operator had been forced to destroy in a German raid, Nancy Wake rode a bicycle for more than 100 miles through several German checkpoints. After the war, she received the George Medal, the U. S. Medal of Freedom, the Médaille de la Résistance and thrice the Croix e Guerre. She also learned that the Gestapo had tortured her husband to death in 1943 for refusing to disclose her whereabouts. After the war she worked for the Intelligence Department at the British Air Ministry attached to embassies of Paris and Prague. After marrying John Forward she returned to Australia. Details and Black & White Photo's of Nancy Wake S. O. E. & Henri Tardivat. Good Condition. All autographs come with a Certificate of Authenticity. We combine postage on multiple winning lots and can ship worldwide. UK postage from £5.99, EU from £7.99, Rest of World from £9.99
