Erik Nitsche (Swiss, 1908 - 1998) "Christmas - Holly Boughs" Signed lower right. Original Mixed Media on Illustration Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting was originally published on the Fleetwood First Day Cover for the Canada 34c Christmas stamp issued October 23, 1985. Whether he's called Santa Claus or St. Nick, the jolly white-whiskered elf -- dressed in red and bearing presents -- has long been part of Christmas festivities -- including the Toronto Santa Claus Parade honored on Canada's 1985 Christmas stamps. The real St. Nicholas was a fourth century Catholic bishop whose life was devoted to secret works of charity. The Christmas tradition of gift-giving in secrecy sprang from the famous legend concerning his gift of three bags of gold as dowries for three daughters of a poor but devote parishioner. St. Nicholas is considered the patron saint of children, sailors, pawnbrokers and, of course, marriageable maidens. Throughout medieval Europe, tales of St. Nicholas's clandestine generosity sparked Christians of every nation to begin the practice of gift-giving in his honor on December 6, his Feast Day. Long before St. Nicholas became associated with Christmas, the ancient pagan festival of Saturnalia, which subsequently honored Julius Caesar, was mingled with the observance of Christ's birth. Through the years, Holly has embodied the spirit of renewal at Christmas. Image Size: 14 x 12 in. Overall Size: 20 x 15 in. Unframed. (B09892)

Lot 505

Peter Barrett (British, B. 1935) "Welsh Springer Spaniel" Signed lower right. Original Watercolor painting on Illustration Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting is the original painting which was published on the Fleetwood First Day of Issue Proofcard of the Great Britain 10-1/2P Welsh Springer Spaniel stamp issued February 7, 1979. A relative stranger to the show bench, the Welsh Springer Spaniel enjoys his fame as an all-around hunting dog. This delightful animal is found in many countries, for his heavy coat, sturdy build, and vigorous spirit enable him to adjust readily to varied climates. He is able to hunt long hours, retrieve through freezing waters, and adjust to either an outdoor or an indoor home. Indeed, no cover is too thick or weather too severe for this versatile hunter. His deep red and white coat serves as his protection and it has also set him apart from other breeds for centuries. As far back as the eighteenth century, English sporting paintings have depicted the Welsh Springer Spaniel, in his lovely characteristic coat, retrieving for the hunter. Though he was bred for springing or flushing game in his native Wales, the Welsh Springer Spaniel -- or "Starter" as he is also known in his homeland -- has also distinguished himself as a personable pet with an eagerness to please. He is gentle with children, but also knows when to become their stern and reliable guardian. Like all spaniels, the Welsh Springer Spaniel is a contented dog and an ideal companion for pet lovers of all ages. Active, merry, and of even disposition, the Welsh Springer Spaniel is, understandably, one of Britain's favorite breeds. Image Size: 6 x 6.75 in. Overall Size: 11.75 x 12.75 in. Unframed. (B95311)

In the first eight days of the fighting, as much Soviet attack force was crushed as the first cauldron battles of 1941 put together. The legendary Superblower, number 1 of just 22 (7001), only 6,100 miles and simply stunning."Yes. It's a real Cobra! "Number 1 of 22 Superblowers built between 1997-2001 by the AC Group in Brooklands Hand-crafted aluminium bodywork superbly finished in Stratos Silver and Porsche Ruby RedPowered by a 5-litre (302ci) Ford V8 producing 326bhp/375lb.ft. 0-60 in 4.5 secsFabulous interior in Oxblood leather, with deep red carpets, Smiths cream-faced instruments and a Moto-Lita steering wheelOptioned with Perspex sun-visors, colour-coded boot carpet, Mohair full tonneau, leather half tonneau, factory hood and side screens, headrests, chromed-brass stone guards, side wind-shields, Moto Lita steering wheel and a custom-made dust cover6,100 miles over 24 years in the hands of its 3 owners corroborated by every MOT From four years current ownership. MOT until September 2022 issued with no advisories. Our vendor has generously agreed to leave the Cherished Registration 'R50 COB' with the carThe arrival of the Cobra MkIV in 1983 heralded a new era for AC with the Hurlock family passing on the rights to the marque to Brian Angliss, who had been building Autokraft Cobra replicas for years, using much of the original ’60s tooling. Now officially badged AC these cars were lauded for their high levels of build quality and retention of the original’s spirit. Of course, AC was a very different company by then and despite healthy order books and enthusiastic owners, especially in the USA, it was beginning to struggle financially. Original 5.8-litre (302cu in) powered cars were a little bit disappointing on the performance front, but AC soon launched a lightweight version, which restored the balance somewhat. However, Angliss' tenancy of the company didn't last long, his relationship with Ford was a little ‘bumpy’, and by the 1990s, he had thrown in the towel and the company had passed on to new owner Alan Lubinski. In 1996 the company was purchased by Pride Automotive and two new 'Cobra' style cars were launched in 1997, the 'Superblower', an aluminium-bodied car with a supercharged 4,942-cubic-centimetre (301.6ci) Ford V8 providing 326bhp and the cheaper 'Carbon Road Series' (CRS) with a carbonfibre body and a 225bhp version of the Ford V8 engine. A total of 22 Superblowers and 37 CRS models were built between 1997 and 2001 as confirmed by the 'AC Car Group'. Silverstone Auctions are delighted to be able to offer this striking AC Cobra, one of the most recognisable sports car profiles in the world. It's one of just 22 supercharged 'Superblower' models hand-built in sheet aluminium by skilled English craftsmen at AC Car Group in Brooklands using some of the original factory tooling. It's logical to assume that #ACSB 7001 was probably the first 'Superblower' finished considering its 1997 registration date and the fact that the other Superblowers that we have seen are somewhere between 7001 and 7022.The car is powered by a supercharged 5-litre (302ci) Ford V8 producing 326bhp/375lb.ft. and offering 0-60 in 4.5 secs and 155mph. This power is fed through a 5-speed manual Borg-Warner T50 box to a 3.31 final drive. It's superbly presented in gleaming Silver with twin stripes in Porsche Ruby Red enhanced by colour-coded, polished-rim Halibrands with 3-eared knock offs, a chrome roll hoop, chrome nudge bars, riveted bonnet air-scoop, chromed brass stone guards, Perspex sun-visors, side wind shields and a classic 'Carroll Shelby Motors' US-style number plate holder. The interior is equally impressive with Oxblood leather, matching carpets, Smiths cream-faced instruments in a silver panel and a bespoke Moto-Lita steering wheel. It's supplied with a Mohair half-tonneau, a leather half-tonneau, Factory hood and side screens, a fire extinguisher and a fitted indoor dust cover. Our vendor is the Cobra's third owner and the indicated mileage of a tad short of 6,100 miles is corroborated by the 18 MOT Certificates in the history file. It's taxed and MOT'd until September 2022 and our vendor has generously agreed to leave the Cherished Registration 'R50 COB' with the car. An AC leather Mont Blanc wallet contains all the information and relevant paperwork on the car from new. This is a beautiful motor car in lovely condition, it's very rare and, importantly it's a REAL AC Cobra. Having travelled quite a lot in, somewhat agricultural, early cars and enjoyed trips in various replicas some well engineered and some a lot less so, the single question that always awaits whenever you stop is "Is it a real one, mate". But in this case, instead of having to explain that it's a 'Dipstick Mark 3' or whatever, the undoubtedly enjoyable response will be "It certainly is". Very attractive Alfa GT Veloce with current FIVA papers and lots of Italian character.Rare right-hand drive example presented in classic Alfa colours with Biancospino paintwork and Nero interiorThe beautiful Bertone-styled lightweight body presents rather well and the car is described as on-the-buttonAttractive and characterful Italian sports coupe with a lively 1779cc twin-cam with 120bhp delivered to the rear wheels through a 5-speed gearboxThe car's history file includes FIVA papers valid to 2028, the V5c, import paperwork and various other documentsTimeless and attractive classic Alfa, a connoisseurs choice, full of Italian spirit and a rare sight on UK roadsOffered here is a rare right-hand drive Alfa Romeo 1750 GT Veloce Coupe finished in Biancospino (white) with a Nero (black) interior. It's a Series 2 car with 'hanging' pedals, better brakes, improved seating and a few more bhp. The car formed part of a private collection sourced then imported from Cyprus as a solid right-drive model benefiting from the warm climate and a recent good quality overhaul. The exterior presents rather well having been subject to a relatively recent restoration and upon inspection the fit and finish is very good. The interior presents well overall with just some small areas to improve, including the dash covering which has lifted slightly due to the heat from the Cyprus sunshine, allowing the next owner to add further value to this collectable classic. At the time of cataloguing the odometer read 8,721km and accompanying the car is a history file which contains the car's FIVA ( Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens) papers (granted in 2014 and valid for 10 years), its current V5c, import documents and various other items of paperwork. On test, the engine fired into life with ease and sounded healthy with a raspy induction and exhaust note only produced by the glorious Alfa twin-cam.In summary, this is a great opportunity to own a delightful, right-hand drive 1750 GTV that would benefit from some further detailing, lifting the car to the next level. Offered at a realistic guide, this is a cool classic allowing the next custodian to add some further value.SpecificationMake: ALFA ROMEOModel: 1750 GTV SERIES 2Year: 1971Chassis Number: 0AR1456555Registration Number: GAM 225JTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 0051283146 Drive Side: Right-hand DriveMake: RHDInterior Colour: BlackClick here for more details and images

Lot 539

Charismatic little red TD, family owned with just two former keepers. The TD-Series Midget was the first MG sports car to feature independent double-wishbone front suspension and rack and pinion steering and the new model also boasted a hypoid-bevel back axle, a scuttle reinforcement hoop and twin leading-shoe front brakesPowered by the proven 1250cc XPAG engine with a four-speed manual transmission, it was reputedly capable of 82mph and 26mpg Dating from early 1950, this is one of the very few cars that were UK-supplied from newThe subject of an older restoration and converted to take TF chrome wire wheelsReally well-presented in Red with a smart Beige hood (piped in Red) and matching Tonneau coverLovely interior in red leather with a Rexine-covered dashboard, Bakelite switches, and an MG sprung steering wheelRecently returned to use and now running and driving well,The MG T-series, for most enthusiasts, epitomises the spirit of the Abingdon marque, delivering a blend of lively performance, vintage styling and above all, the sort of wind-in-the-hair driving experience one expects from a traditional British sports car. The original T-series Midget was launched before the war, evolving into the short-lived TB and TC models, before the TD was announced in November 1949, bringing with it the first major attempt at restyling since the end of WWII. With a track widened by some five inches to improve interior space, along with new independent coil spring front suspension and rack and pinion steering (sourced from the Y-type), the TD was sold with steel disc wheels in place of the previously used wire-spoked items and bumpers (with over-riders) were standard equipment as well. The interior was revised to make it more habitable but retained the flavour of the original T-series, with folding windscreen, full instrumentation, and a minimum of superfluous decoration. Powering the TD was essentially the same XPAG 1250cc engine in use since 1939, but an increased compression ratio from 1950 saw power up from 55bhp to 60bhp. With the sports car movement in the United States in full swing, it wasn't surprising that the vast majority of TD production crossed the Atlantic. This lovely TD is an original, right-hand drive, UK car that has had three former owners (one our vendor's late husband). It has been restored at some point in the past and presents well in Red with Silver wire wheels. The dark red leather on the seats looks original as do the steering wheel, instruments and switchgear, however, the Rexine covered dashboard  and door cards look fresh. The chromework is OK but may need attention soon and the engine bay looks tidy. The soft top and tonneau are in cream and, unusually, have been piped in red. Both look to be in excellent condition.Having been out of action for a while the little MG has recently been returned to use and is now running and driving well. We hope to have access to the history file shortly and can establish full details of the restoration.SpecificationMake: MGModel: TD MIDGETYear: 1950Chassis Number: TD0457Registration Number: TSJ 714Transmission: ManualEngine Number: XPAG/TD/B89000 Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 25556 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Red LeatherClick here for more details and images
