Moore (Lieutenant-General Sir John, 1769-1809) . Autograph letter signed 'John Moore', London, 13 November, 1801, to an unidentified lady, on behalf of his friend Lord Robert Kerr, who is seeking her influence in the matter of a promotion, Moore mentions the recent conclusion of the Egyptian Campaign against Napoleon, and Kerr's service there, 'It is with pleasure I can assure you that Lord Robert is a young man of good disposition, and of a most amiable temper. These qualities together with the manly spirit he displayed throughout the service in Egypt have gained him the good will & the esteem of the officers of his Regiment, and all who are acquainted with him', 4 pp., a little wear on folds and some toning to lower half of final page, together with a second autograph letter signed in text in the third person from 'Sir John Moore', on board HMS Victory, 3 July [1808?], to Mr Hunter, appearing to refer to General Moore's mission to Sweden, or possible departure, 'Sir John Moore is sorry he had not an opportunity to see Mr Hunter before his departure. He begs his acceptance of a hundred Spanish dollars and is much obliged to him for his assistance in his passage to Stockholm, paper watermarked 1805, two tears professionally repaired, one tear with a little loss to final letter of 'Hunter', a little spotting and soiling, one page with integral address leaf, both 4to, plus two related engravings (Qty: 4)

The Bombing of Buckingham Palace, September 8th and 13th, 1940 and Buckingham Palace at War – an important group of ephemera comprising a handwritten letter from HM King George VI to Mr Williams, the Superintendent of Buckingham Palace, written on 15th September 1940 on Windsor Castle crested writing paper (two days after a serious bomb attack on the palace), asking Mr Williams to thank all the staff at Buckingham Palace for their devotion to duty under enormous strain over the past week and to thank them all for the fine spirit they have displayed, signed and dated ‘George R.I. 15-9-1940’; HM Queen Mary – a handwritten letter to Mr Williams, the Superintendent of Buckingham Palace, written on 13th September 1940 (five days after a minor bombing attack on Buckingham Palace and the day of the major attack), on Badminton headed writing paper – Queen Mary says how appalled she was to see the photographs of the damage to the Palace and is thankful no one was hurt and The King and Queen were not staying there that night. She comments what an awful time it must have been for Mr Williams and she has sent him a repair sheet to report the extent of the damage back to her – she comments what a dreadful enemy they are fighting against; the Buckingham Palace Home Guard – a fascinating photograph album with label to cover 'Buckingham Palace Company (H.G.) inspected by HM The King Sept. 24th 1941' – containing photographs of The King and The Queen with Major Williams in Home Guard uniform and the other members of the Palace staff in H.G. uniform parading for The Royal Couple at the rear of the Palace (with boarded-up windows) and a copy photograph of Major Williams in Home Guard uniform at his desk in Buckingham Palace – a fascinating and rare historical Wartime record of life at the Palace (4)
Fine quality late Victorian Irish five piece tea set - comprising silver teapot of bellied form, with embossed fruit, floral and scroll decoration, flared rim and engraved monogram, ebonised scroll handle and hinged domed cover with foliate finial on three impressive lion mask and paw feet, matching hot water jug, sugar and cream jug (Dublin 1898 / 1900), West & Son, together with an en-suite silver plated spirit kettle, stand and burner, kettle stamped 'West & Son Dublin'. Approximately 64ozs weighable silver, teapot 25.5cm across General overall condition good, all pieces have some surface scratching and minor denting. Teapot - tip of spoput has been repaired and reduced slightly, handle is worn and has been inked or painted in, no other damage or repair, marks clear. Hot water jug - Spout slightly distorted and worn, handle is worn and refinished, no other damage or repair, marks clear. Sugar & cream - minor distortion to rims, cream jug handle may have been repaired at top mount, no other damage or repair, marks clear.
