THE MACALLAN 1965 25 YEAR OLD ANNIVERSARY MALT with wooden presentation case 75cl/ 43% Note: The Anniversary Malt range was in existence for almost twenty years from 1982 until the year 2000. These twenty-five year old bottlings are widely acknowledged for their quality and depth of character, exclusively matured in sherry casks. 1965 marks a key year at Macallan as it was the year in which the distillery doubled production capacity from six to twelve stills. The Macallan spirit stills are known as the 'sma' stills' or small stills, due to their diminutive size, 3,900 litres compared to 21,000 at Glenfarclas. The label reads 'In the heart of Speyside, in the region known as Glenlivet, stands the Macallan distillery. The site of whisky making for many generations. It was formally accorded legal status in 1824, and since then it has been the home of Scotland's finest malt whisky. This opinion was notably confirmed when, in a blind whisky-tasting recently organised by the London Sunday Times, it was the outright winner, scoring over thirty percentum more than its nearest rival. Again in 1982, the Macallan won the Madrid gold medal in the spirit's category against competition from all over the world. What is the secret of the world's finest spirit? For centuries, the Macallan has been distilled on the same estate by the same family in particular in small hand beaten copper stills - and, whilst other distillers no longer insist on using oaken sherry casks, at Macallan this costly tradition is maintained. Finally, at Macallan, a small quantity of the best casks are set aside to slumber even longer in the mellowing oak; until the contents are released, as here, to offer you one of life's few genuinely incomparable experiences.'

MORTLACH 1949 - GORDON & MACPHAIL'S bottled in 2001, with presentation case and certificate of authenticity 70cl/ 40% Note: Mortlach distillery is the oldest distillery to be established in Dufftown, a town in the Speyside region that once had seven distilleries. It is known as the 'Beast of Dufftown' for the intensity and muscular complexity of the spirit it produces. This is clearly matured in sherry casks given the dark reddish tones of the whisky. Tasting notes: Characteristic notes of raisins, figs and plums. Balanced with oak and perfume notes. Dry on the palate and a medium finish that fades off the tongue.

The Dennis Silver TrayA highly important large silver Tray, lavishly decorated, inscribed: "Presented to Thomas Stratford Dennis Esq. by the Governors, Grand Jury, Magistrates and Gentlemen of the County of Wicklow As a lasting Record of the Sentiments of Sincere approbation and Respect which they feel for his conspicuous Zeal and active intrepidity as a Magistrate of their County And for his successful exertions in repressing the spirit of insubordination and contempt for the Laws which prevailed along the borders of the Counties of Wicklow Carlow & Kildare in the year 1822." approx. 61cms (24"), Dublin c. 1822, maker Edward Powell & Twycross, approx. 230ozs.The reverse bears the names of those involved in the presentation, commencing with the Earl of Aldborough, Governor, and the Hon. Hugh Howard, followed by the names of 31 notables of the county (MPs, jurors, JPs, clergy and gentry) and concluding with Robert F. Saunders Esq., High Sheriff. The inner and outer edges are decorated with foliage, fruit and flowers; at the top is an impression of Glendalough; at the bottom the arms of Dennis impaling Saunders (the recipient's wife and mother were Saunderses); to the right is an Irish harp; and to the left a caduceus and horn of plenty; in between are the heads of four mythological women.A magnificent object and a superb example of Irish silverware of the period. Thomas Stratford Dennis (1781-1870) was at the time the heir to Fortgranite, in which he succeeded his father in 1837. The year 1822 was marked by troubles in Ireland - an ongoing economic slump following the end of the Napoleonic Wars, a disastrous failure of the potato crop, and agrarian unrest: hence, presumably, the need for Dennis's "successful exertions in repressing the spirit of insubordination".
