§ Christopher Clairmonte (British, 1932-2012) Ely Cathedral panorama signed lower right "Christopher Clairmonte '57" oil on board 117 x 239cm (46 x 93in) Other Notes: Christopher Clairmonte produced powerful landscape paintings, still lifes and portraits, as well as skilful pen and ink drawings, belonging to a peculiarly English tradition of artists, pursuing a devotion to topography and the unique spirit of particular places. He never worked from photographs but was passionate about keeping a sketch book, drawing compulsively wherever he found himself. After King’s College School, Wimbledon (alma mater of Walter Sickert), he went on to Wimbledon School of Art, from where he won a scholarship to the Royal College of Art A little dirty. Tiny split to the board on the right-hand side.
