MACALLAN 1966 25 YEAR OLD ANNIVERSARY MALTSingle malt. There are few distilleries in the world quite so revered as Macallan. Nestled in the heart of the Speyside region, the rich spirit that runs from their “curiously small stills”, and their penchant for Spanish Sherry casks have proven to be a match made in Heaven, delighting the tastebuds of whisky connoisseurs around the globe. With demand far outstripping supply, they embarked upon one of the most ambitious distillery upgrades of all time, investing £140 million in an ultra-modern still house and visitor centre that seamlessly blends with the surrounding landscape, and is home to a whopping 36 stills capable of churning out around 15 million litres of spirit every year. Even so, getting your hands on a bottle can still be tricky, with new releases selling out as soon as they hit the shelves, and older examples regularly setting records at auction.43% ABV / 70clFill level at top of shoulder. There is some minor damage to the seal, but it is still intact.

A CASE OF 12 ABERLOUR 1989 MILLENNIUM EDITIONSSingle malt.Named after the small Speyside town in which it resides, Aberlour distillery has cultivated a dedicated following, particularly in France where it is frequently the top selling single malt. The spirit it produces ages extremely well in Sherry casks and has a distinctive note of blackcurrant.Although it boasts an extensive core range, the expression it is perhaps best known for is the consistently excellent small batch A’Bunadh. These 1989 vintage Aberlours were drawn from a series of casks which members of the public could reserve prior to their bottling in time for the Millennium celebrations. These are dangerously drinkable whiskies that, in our opinion, stand head and shoulders above the standard 10 and 12 year olds. Each 40% ABV / 70clThere are no condition issues to note. Aside from the bottle we unwrapped and removed from the case in order to photograph it, none of the other bottles appear to have been touched since the the case was new. Please see additional photos.

HIGHLAND PARK 1961 THE DRAGONSingle malt.Orkney’s Highland Park distillery is situated in the town of Kirkwall on the site of an illicit still thought to have been operated by Magnus Eunson, a smuggler, local butcher and former priest who was directly descended from Viking settlers. With that heritage, it’s fitting that today they frequently draw from Scandinavian mythology when it comes to naming their whiskies. The distillery is known for its signature style that utilises Orcadian peat in the malting process, resulting in a fragrant, heathery spirit that is most often left matured in Sherry wood. This is part of a series of highly sought after independent bottlings from S. & J. D. Robertson of Kirkwall.48.1% ABV / 70clFill level in mid neck. There is some minor speckling on the front label. Please see additional images.

Lot 123

HIGHLAND PARK 16 YEAR OLD THORSingle malt.Orkney’s Highland Park distillery is situated in the town of Kirkwall on the site of an illicit still thought to have been operated by Magnus Eunson, a smuggler, local butcher and former priest who was directly descended from Viking settlers. With that heritage, it’s fitting that today they frequently draw from Scandinavian mythology when it comes to naming their whiskies. The distillery is known for its signature style that utilises Orcadian peat in the malting process, resulting in a fragrant, heathery spirit that is most often left matured in Sherry wood.Thor is the first release in the Valhalla series that celebrates figures from Norse mythology.52.1% ABV / 70cl

Lot 125

AUCHENTOSHAN 1978 18 YEAR OLDSingle malt.Auchentoshan is part of a small minority of Scottish distilleries, in that every drop of whisky it produces is sold as a single malt. Similarly unusual is its use of triple distillation to produce a purer spirit that’s light and mildly fruity.Situated just outside Clydebank, the distillery was lucky to survive the 1941 blitz relatively unscathed. Only one of its warehouses was damaged by a bomb blast, and another near miss provided a blast crater that later became the distillery’s picturesque pond.Bottled: 199758.8% ABV / 70clFill level in high shoulder.

Lot 132

MACALLAN 1989 18 YEAR OLD SANDY MACFARLANE PRIVATE CASKSingle malt. There are few distilleries in the world quite so revered as Macallan. Lot 146

BALVENIE 10 YEAR OLD FOUNDER'S RESERVESingle malt.Balvenie is part of the Grant’s family and sits beside its sister distilleries, Glenfiddich and Kininvie, in the Speyside burgh of Dufftown. Established in 1892, just a few years after Glenfiddich, Balvenie has spent its life supplying the heart of the Grant’s blend. In fact, it wasn’t until nearly 100 years later, when Kininvie was built, that it was able to seriously market its own single malt. One of very few distilleries to retain its own malting floor, Balvenie is slightly unusual for a modern Speyside whisky in that it still uses a small percentage of peated malt to make its spirit. While the new make it produces is far from smoky, this small amount of peat gives it a distinctive character that has helped it become one of the best-selling malt whiskies in the world. The Founder's Reserve has now been discontinued and replaced with the 12 Year Old DoubleWood.40% ABV / 70cl

Lot 29

BRUICHLADDICH 12 YEAR OLD RIVESALTES PRIVATE CASK #3640Single malt.Given Islay’s peaty reputation, the assumption might be that the islanders themselves favour big smoky whiskies. However, it’s actually Bruichladdich with its traditionally unpeated style that has earned the reputation as the local favourite. It’s only relatively recently that the distillery has dabbled in peated whisky with their Port Charlotte range, as well as the ultra-heavily peated Octomore releases.Information supplied by the cask's owner tells us that Hogshead #3640, which previously contained Rivesaltes wine, was filled on the 10th of December 2009 with spirit produced exclusively from Scottish barley.60.5% ABV / 70cl

Lot 35

MACALLAN 25 YEAR OLD SHERRY OAKSingle malt. There are few distilleries in the world quite so revered as Macallan. Lot 5

CAOL ILA FEIS ILE 2014Single malt.Caol Ila might not be the prettiest distillery on Islay, but the spectacular view it enjoys, across the water to the neighbouring island of Jura, more than makes up for it. The distillery itself is an absolute monster, producing more litres of spirit per year than Lagavulin, Ardbeg, and Laphroaig combined! A good chunk of its staggering output winds up in Johnnie Walker, but there’s still plenty left to be bottled as single malt, in both peated and un-peated guises. This expression was matured in refill American Oak Hogsheads, and bottled to celebrate the 2014 Islay Festival.Bottle Number: 55255.5% ABV / 70cl

Lot 87

MACALLAN GOLD DOUBLE CASKSingle malt. There are few distilleries in the world quite so revered as Macallan. Lot 9

ARDBEG 1993 22 YEAR OLD HART BROTHERSSingle malt.Located on the island’s rugged south coast, Ardbeg distillery represents the peatier end of the Islay spectrum. While it has endured some tough times, spending several years mothballed, the distillery has undergone a bit of a renaissance since being bought over by Glenmorangie and is now on a stable footing. While it still retains its signature sooty spirit, Ardbeg has also adopted its new parent company’s fondness for experimental cask finishes, arguably increasing its appeal.Distilled: October 1993Bottled: June 201652.8% ABV / 70cl

Lot 92

DALWHINNIE 15 YEAR OLDSingle malt.Dalwhinnie is the highest distillery in Scotland and, as such, it also boasts the lowest average temperature range. The obvious benefit of this is a lower “angel’s share” lost from casks in their warehouse, but it also keeps their external worm tubs cool, causing the spirit vapour from the stills to condense very quickly. Combine this with a distillation process which strives to minimise copper contact, and Dalwhinnie distillery produces a heavy, sulphury new make spirit that needs to mellow in refill wood for 15 years before its signature sweet, honied style fully emerges.43% ABV / 70clThere is some minor wear to the carton, as well as a personal message written in pen on the carton lid.

Archery, The Royal British Bowmen.  [?By] *** Miss Bagley, n.d. [c. 1813], 6pp, 14 dizdain stanzas of 10 lines, beginning 'With thoughts relax'd by pleasures flow', and finishing 'May Bowmen all both great & small forever be defended ', the verse explores British geography and to an extent identity, citing Howe and Nelson, ancient families, quotes the Magna Carta's right of habeas corpus, as well as the slightly anachronistic theme of bowmen and archery, which is repeated several times throughout the poem - almost, but not quite, as a chorus, (and 'Bow wow wow' is similarly repeated), in a spirit of revivalism the poet makes each theme seem inherent in the national landscape, watermarked 1813.

JOAN PONÇ BONET (Barcelona, 1927 - Saint-Paul, France, 1984)."Don Quixote Series, 1979. Complete collection. 20 etchings. Numbered I/XV.Hand signed and justified by the author at the bottom.Size: 42 x 26cm (plate) ; 63 x 44,5 cm (white). In 1979 he created the series of etchings on the figure of "Don Quichotte", with 20 etchings and made in Atelier Rigal (France). The etchings of "Don Quichotte" selected by Ponç are some of the most significant to discover the artist's interest in Cervantes' characters, the result of his youthful reading of Unamuno's "The Life of Don Quixote and Sancho".A painter and draughtsman, he trained in Barcelona, in the studio of Ramón Rogent and at the Academy of Plastic Arts with Ángel López-Obrero. After devoting himself to painting and drawing in anonymity, he held his first individual exhibition in 1946, at the Galería Arte in Bilbao, which was to be his definitive establishment on the national art scene. In 1948, together with Tharrats, Puig, Cuixart, Tàpies and Brossa, among others, he founded the avant-garde group Dau al Set. Selected by Eugenio D'Ors, he took part in the Salón de los Once in Madrid in 1951 and 1952. In 1952 he took part in the Hispano-American Biennial, and the following year he spent some time in Paris, where he met Joan Miró and managed to exhibit at the Musée de la Villa. On the latter's recommendation, Ponç gained access to Brazilian artistic circles, settling in São Paulo from 1953 to 1962. In 1954, the year of the dissolution of Dau al Set, he held an exhibition at the city's Museum of Modern Art, which was so successful that the organisation acquired all the works. In Brazil he visited the equatorial jungles, where he was impressed by their fauna, especially insects, which he incorporated into his imagery. In 1955 he founded the Taüll group with Marc Aleu, Modest Cuixart, Jaume Guinovart, Jaume Muxart, Mercadé, Tàpies and Tharrats. After returning to Catalonia due to illness, as a fully established artist he shows his work in New York, Rio de Janeiro, Bonn, Paris, Frankfurt, Geneva, Antibes and various Spanish cities. In 1965 he won the International Grand Prize for Drawing at the São Paulo Biennial. Ponç's paintings present phantasmagoric images that are both painful and tortured, in which the subconscious is the protagonist. For the painter, art is nothing more than an introduction to the mystery and secrets of the spirit. More of a draughtsman than a painter, his work is extremely detailed and meticulous. Ponç's production can be divided into six periods: the Dau al Set period (1947), the Brazilian period (1958), the metaphysical-geometric period (1969), the period of the metaphysical characters (1970), the acupainting period (1971) and a final period of synthesis (1972). He is currently represented at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de la Universidad de São Paulo, the Museo Patio Herreriano in Valladolid, the MACBA in Barcelona, the Centro-Museo Vasco de Arte Contemporáneo in Vitoria, the Museo de L'Empordà and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía.
