Cayet was part of the court of Catherine of Bourbon, or of Navarre (1559-1604), sister of King Henry IV of France (1553 -1610). Original edition (second printing) that includes one of the first accounts of the journey of the French navigator, cartographer and explorer Samuel Champlain (1567/74-1635) to North America and Canada, where, in 1608, he would found the city of Québec. The copy presents page 207 with the amended and correct foliation (107 in the first edition) and retains the rare architectural frontispiece, engraved on copperplate, signed J. de Weert f., not mentioned in the bibliographies. Magnificent contemporary binding, entirely made of burnished parchment (vélin doré), with missing ties, double golden fillet squared on the covers and sections with fleur-de-lis; in the center of the front covers, the coat of arms of Henry IV, engraved in gold, with the necklaces of the orders of St. Michael and the Holy Spirit; gilt edges. This pioneering spirit prompted the company to equip numerous Himalayan expeditions with oyster watches. On the 29th of May 1953, Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay were the first to reach the summit of Mount Everest. The two men were members of a British expedition that was equipped with oyster perpetual watches. Launched in 1953 in the wake of the successful ascent of the world's highest mountain, the oyster perpetual explorer soon became an icon. The explorer is emblematic of the close ties between Rolex and exploration."
A Victorian Silver Inkstand, by Edward, Edward, John and William Barnard, London, 1840 shaped oblong and on four openwork foliage cast feet, the reeded rim with a vacant cartouche and two shell-cast grips, supporting two melon cast containers, each with rocaille cast cover with foliage and foliage finial, each containing a silver-mounted glass bottle, with a central box, the lid with a later finial cast as a gillie holding a fish37.5cm wide, weight of silver 54oz 19dwt, 1,710grThe inscription reads 'Mr Alfred V Sale from the staff of the Dominion Motor Spirit Co. Ltd. December 1937'.Fully marked under base and inside box cover. Further park marked on side of box and on covers. The containers have not been removed and are possibly marked underneath. The finial is apparently unmarked and is probably later. It tests as silver. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. There are some minor bruises. The glass bottles are possibly later. The surface has been treated to prevent tarnish. This has discoloured and worn off in places. The cartouches have probably been erased.

Camels began appearing in tombs by the 3rd century AD and became increasingly common in northern burials from the 5th-8th centuries. Adapted to their natural habitat in the steppes and mountainous deserts north of China, Bactrian camels were often used to transport military and other goods to and from the harsh frontier.Losses to the moulded ropes upon the camels pack. Some other lesser flakes to edges and general wear. No signs of repair.
