Douglas Jones (Chilean, B. 1929) "Lindberg Lands in Paris" Signed lower right. Original Oil painting on Canvas. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. Born February 4, 1902, Charles A. Lindbergh focused his life toward his 1927 rendezvous with destiny. Consumed with a desire to fly, he left school to study flying and in 1925 he accepted an Air Force reserve commission. Later, he served as an airmail pilot. However, it was on May 20, 1927, that the fate of the slim twenty-five year old pilot and his twenty-seven foot monoplane, The Spirit of St. Louis, were inextricably joined. Fast and well-built, the Spirit's beauty lay in its fifty hour range. And, its instability aloft was the saving grace which repeatedly nudged Lindbergh to consciousness as he dozed over the treacherous Atlantic. On May 21, 1927, after flying for 33-1/2 hours nonstop, Lindbergh reached Paris, completing man's first solo flight across the Atlantic. Greeted by a hundred thousand cheering Parisians, he was indeed the world's hero -- the Lone Eagle. In the following years, Lindbergh distinguished himself by flying more than fifty missions in World War II and by developing techniques that extended the capability and versatility of United States aircraft. Understandably, the world loved and admired Charles Lindbergh. Even after his death in 1974, the dedication, high moral standards, and courage exemplified by his life remained a constant inspiration to people the world over. Image Size: 15 x 18 in. Overall Size: 19.5 x 23 in. Unframed. (B05096)

Ed Little (American, B. 1957) "Santa Claus Going Down the Chimney" Signed lower left. Original Oil painting on CanvasBoard. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting is the original painting which was published on the Fleetwood First Day Cover for the U.S. 29c Santa Claus Going Down Chimney stamp issued October 17, 1999. "As I drew in my head, and was turning around, Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound." Clement Moore's classic Christmas story is a timeless tale which merrily captures the joyful spirit of the holiday season. The mythological figure of Santa Claus incorporates legends and fables from many European countries, but he originally evolved from St. Nicholas, a bishop of the early Christian church. For many centuries, December 6 -- the anniversary of Nicholas' death -- was celebrated with feasting and merrymaking throughout Europe. After the Protestant Reformation, St. Nicholas was replaced as the center of festivities by Christkindli -- the Christ Child. Derivations of the name produced Kris Kringle, a ministering spirit who presented gifts at Christmas time. England's Queen Victoria revived St. Nicholas festivities when she married a German prince, Albert. In this incarnation St. Nicholas emerged as Father Christmas, who delivered presents to good children. In America, Santa Claus is strictly a Christmas Eve visitor who arrives by way of the chimney, places gifts under trees, stuffs stockings with toys and eats goodies left by grateful children. Harry Schaare (New York, Arizona, 1922 - 2008) "Yankee Doodle Boy" Signed lower right. Original Oil painting on Masonite. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. He was the Man Who Owned Broadway. The Yankee Doodle Boy. A supreme showman who brought red and blue to the Great White Way. Without question, George M. Cohan was the greatest song and dance man of his time, a musical genius who captured the spirit of America in such songs as "Yankee Doodle Boy," "Over There," and so many others. With a kangaroo walk; a nasal out-the-corner-of-his-mouth talk; a giggle, grimace, and a wagging finger, "George M." won the hearts of American theater-goers from coast to coast. One of Cohan's most memorable songs, one that is still sung today, is the inspiring anthem, "You're A Grand Old Flag." More than any other song ever written, "You're A Grand Old Flag" reflects the enthusiasm of the American people, and their love of the flag as a symbol of a beautiful country and of American ideals and achievements. George M. Cohan was born on July 3, 1878. Image Size: 17.5 x 14 in. Overall Size: 18 x 15 in. Unframed. (B05161)
Jim Butcher (American, B. 1944) "View of Church in the Winter" Signed lower right. Original Oil painting on Masonite. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. The magical season of Christmas is a time of merriment; but it is also a time for sincere reverence. On Christmas morning, churches all over the world hold special, joyous services to celebrate, with rich ceremony, the humble birth of the Savior of the World ... Jesus Christ. Merriment and reverence are united by a special bond during this sacred time of the year. The sincere, yet joyful worship of Jesus Christ as the Babe of Bethlehem ... born in humility ... was especially stressed by St. Francis of Assisi. This Holy Saint is associated with Christmas because of his great love of the simple religious songs which were the forerunners of our modern Christmas carols. He once advised a devout Brother to mix lighthearted singing with his preaching for what are the servants of God if not His minstrels, who ought to stir and incite the hearts of men to spiritual joy? When St. Francis celebrated Christmas in Greccio in 1223 it was humble indeed ... especially when compared with the Christmases of today, which partake of diverse customs developed through two thousand years. But all Christmas customs, whether rooted in pagan festivals, folklore, or church rituals, express that spiritual joy of which St. Francis spoke ... a joy which we glory in manifesting during the magical season of Christmas. Even a young child, as depicted in this artwork, can enjoy the heart warming spirit of Yuletide Worship, especially with a nice, sweet candy cane that will see him joyfully through the service. Shannon Stirnweis (American, B. 1931) "Frederic Bartholdi/Statue of Liberty" Signed lower left. Original Oil painting on Illustration Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting is the original painting which was published on the Fleetwood First Day of Issue Maximum Card for the U.S. 22c Frederic A. Bartholdi/Statue Of Liberty stamp issued July 18, 1985. Standing proud and silent over New York Harbor, the Statue of Liberty is a stirring symbol of international friendship. Americans owe its design and construction to the French sculptor F. Auguste Bartholdi. Originally planned to be given to the United States by the people of France in 1876 -- the date marking one hundred years of American independence -- Lady Liberty was not completed and presented to the United States until 1885. The spirit of the Statue had originated in 1865 when Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. Greatly affected by the tragedy, the French people commissioned Bartholdi to erect a monument symbolizing the living friendship between France and America. Entitled Liberty Enlightening the World, the Statue holds a plaque inscribed: July IV, MDCCLXXVI, and at the base of the Statue are the broken shackles of oppression. From her post on New York Harbor's Bedloe's Island, the Statue has welcomed thousands of immigrants yearning to breathe free. Image Size: 15.75 x 21.75 in. Overall Size: 17.75 x 23.75 in. Unframed. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. Taken from Charles Dickens' tale A Christmas Carol, in which Ebenezer Scrooge witnesses the three spirits that cause such a change in his outlook on life. The Spirit of Christmas Past showed him how the past heartache in his childhood and his bad choices caused the hardening of his heart and how deeply it cost him in the end; seeing what could have been his to enjoy and then thinking it could still be his with the Spirit of Christmas Present only to find out the future does not hold love or joy for him by the Spirit of Christmas Yet to Come and instead his actions leave him robbed at death and no one left to grieve for him. In the end, his soul is changed and he joins his employee and family for a Christmas celebration. Image Size: 12 x 13.5 in. Overall Size: 17.5 x 20 in. Unframed. (B05196)
