Lady Dorothea Duff, nee Reynolds-Peyton. Logbook or journal, typed, recording a voyage from Port Lincoln, South Australia to London by way of Cape Horn, 1935, in the four-masted barque "Ponape". The daily entries, which run from 11 April 1935 to 17 August 1935, record the coordinates (latitude and longitude), weather, and various occurrences on board. The evocative descriptions reveal Dorothea's adventurous spirit. April 25th: 'This evening just before it got dark, I climbed out on to the end of the jibboom with the 2nd Officer, and I saw and patted the figure head. It was fun. The ship was moving along quite fast, and when we were on the end of the jibboom it looked as though we were quite separate from the Ship, and as if she was following us.' April 28th: 'This morning at about 12.30 I and the Mate (King Kong) climbed the rigging of the Main mast and went out on the Royal Yard Arm. It was quite exciting as it was fairly windy and the upper part of the rigging swayed about a bit...we looked down at the sea and saw some porpoises swimming under the surface...they looked very funny and quite small from the height we were at. They looked like fish on a Lalique glass plate.' April 30th: 'At 10 P.M. we had a rum grog with the Captain. He gave me what he calls a 2nd Mate's drink, which is about 4 times as strong as an ordinary one, but I knocked it back for the honour of the Union Jack.' 152 pages, typed, on paper bearing manufacturer's watermark (Abermill Bond), bound in olive green paper covers bearing engraved bookplate for Dorothea Duff (depicting sailing ship), the pages sewn with silk cords and a tied luggage tag, inscribed in black ink, 'First Diary, from Australia to England 1935.' "Suggestions from Oceania", Oil and acrylic paint on recycled panel, 73x103 cm, 2020 Born in Catania in 1994, Eleonora Sardo, in art Nora, is an art historian and painter. She studied in Catania at the Art Institute and the Faculty of Cultural Heritage and in Siena Art History. Currently she is attending the Rome Masters in Art and Responsibilities of stylistic recognition. After an Erasmus Plus at the Holburne Museum in Bath (UK), she spent a short time immersed in the intimacy of Icelandic landscapes and six months impressed by primitivism of the Australian continent. Finally she returned to Sicily, "the key to everything" (Goethe, Italian Journey) and feels the need to return to painting, to give space and body to a new sensibility. She prefers the representation of the female figure, investigated through the multiform aesthetic profile, and abstract compositions, metaphors and transfigurations dream of the places visited. Her style is characterized by the broad brushstrokes vibrant, clarity, sensuality, spirit soul searching, the frequent use of spatula, and materials recovery media. The work represents the synthesis of imaginative feeling that the Australian continent has carved in the author's memories. The support is a wooden panel by recovery and pictorial materials used are oils and acrylics. ASOR Studio
