The remainder of the upper section of the glass is in relatively good order with only a very few minor flea bite nibbles on some of the faceted edges but these cannot be seen with the naked eye. The hallmarks on the top are good and clear. There is only one very small almost insignificant pinpoint size dint to the lid. The seam around the middle of the top is visible around 50% of it but again this is not visible to the naked eye. The top hinge is secure. The top twists and hinges as it should. It has a cork seal. The interior of the glass flask neck has tiny nibbles and there is one tiny rim chip. The wear and tear noted is rather minimal given its age.

Informel und Abstrakter Expressionismus 1946-1964, Museum Kunstpalast, Düsseldorf 2010, cat. no. 133, p. 147, illAt the beginning of the 1950s, Emil Schumacher detached himself from the object as a pictorial motif. Here, in this painting from 1959, the material and painting are at the centre of his creative work as their own, meaningful expression, entirely in the spirit of Informel. Nevertheless, the strongly graphic element allows some fascinating discoveries: the viewer cannot help but unite the black lines lying on the white surface and resembling a cipher into a figurative construct. The line construct evokes associations and reveals the contours of a human being. Is there a person standing on skis in a wintery white landscape? At the same time, Schumacher makes the artistic moment, the creative process, visible in the roughness of his partly broken and sublime surfaces. The artist shares testing and experimenting with new materials, processes and techniques throughout his entire oeuvre with the viewer. It is not unusual for him to choose titles for his works that are later invented, full of associations, that sometimes originate from his imagination or are based on real places or persons and names. Oil on canvas. 210 x 156cm. Signed, dated and titled verso lower right: A. Butzer '01 "Bobby Bohnen und seine Hunde". Verso on the canvas various hand drawings as well as the inscription: Kleinstockach. In addition inscribed on the stretcher in the centre: Thaneller, Roter Stein, Hönig, Birnhorn, Heilerwand, Hochzint, Knittelkargspitz. Provenance:- Galerie Hammelehle und Ahrens, Stuttgart- Private collection Spain.Exhibition:- Galerie Hammelehle und Ahrens, Stuttgart 2001- Frankfurter Kunstverein, 2003Literature:- Galerie Hammelehle und Ahrens (Ed.): Exhibito.-Cat. André Butzer: TODALL!, Berlin 2003, p. 15The work presented here by the Stuttgart painter and artist star André Butzer is one of his early works, which is still dominated by representationalism. The examination of figuration and abstraction is already visible in detail in this work and will soon be characteristic of his oeuvre as a whole. The artist is always concerned with questions of painting per se. "What can painting still express today" he seems to ask himself and the viewer in this and all his works. In the painting presented here, the artist combines pop and high culture in bright colors, which he places virtuously and pastily on the canvas: you find animated figures, inspired by his idol Walt Disney, as well as themes of art history, which the artist knows very well. The figures look like exaggerated, mutated comic figures with big round eyes and Pinocchio noses. At the same time, the work seems like a contemporary historical painting in which the protagonists named in the title "Bobby Bohnen und seine Hunde" (Bobby Beans and his Dogs) present themselves and become part of art history. Bobby Bohnen greets the viewer with a raised hand, while a dog grins cheekily. Their story seems to be continued in drawings on the back of the canvas. In addition to Walt Disney, Butzer also names Henri Matisse as a source of inspiration. Brown, red and blue tones are combined with the dominating bright green and violet tones to create a skilful play of colours that reflects the spirit of the times and would certainly have delighted the master of classical modernism. Neben Walt Disney nennt Butzer u.a.
