Writing over 1000 years ago of April, Bcde called it Eostur-Monath, now rendered the Paschal month it received its name from a goddess of Spring Eostri worshipped by the ancient gods of the north. Easter anf the east the direction from where the sun rises and the son of God. The Celts believed Eostri's favourite animal and attendant spirit was the hare. it represented love, fertility and growth and was associated with the moon, dawn and Easter - the enlightenment of the soul through death redemption and resurrection. The goddess changed into a hare at full moon, the hare was also sacred to the White Goddess - Earth mother and as such considered a royal animal. The moon often linked with teh hare a symbol of birth, regeneration reproduction (eggs) death rebirth which was incorporated by the Christians into the resurrection of our Lord at Easter also the end of paganism.
