Historia Maioris Britanniae, tam Angli[a]e q[uam] Scoti[a]e, 1st ed., [Paris], Venundatur Iodoco Badio Ascensio, [col:] Ex officina Ascensiana ad Idus Aprilis 1521, printer's woodcut device on the title-page, woodcut arms of Scotland on the title-page verso, numerous crible woodcut initials, closed tears in the title-page repaired, some soiling and staining in the text, some leaves of sig. o misplaced, but all present, 18th century vellum, a little soiled, 8vo. First edition of Major's history of Greater Britain, in which the separate histories of England and Scotland are brought together. "Written in a Sorbonic and barbarous style, yet very truly and with great liberty of spirit ...": Wood's Athen. Oxon. John Major (1469-1550) spent a number of years in Paris, first as a student and later as professor of scholastic philosophy. In 1519 he returned to Scotland to become professor of theology at St. Andrews, where his students included George Buchanan and John Knox. His History contains a suggestion that Scotland would have much to gain from a union with England, and an early mention of the legend of Robin Hood. Adams M228. (1)

Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost Spirit of Ecstasy Mascot Solid nickel Spirit of Ecstasy suitable for 1918-29 Silver Ghost or Phantom I. Marked '6-2-11' and 'Charles Sykes' to base with 'Trade Mark Reg' and 'Reg US Pat Off' under wings. Copper mounting stud, approx 17cm tall, very good condition with good detailing.
Rolls-Royce Spirit of Ecstasy Mascot Believed Edwardian with 'Rolls-Royce' script around circumference of stepped base, full 'Charles Sykes' signature to top of base and 'Trade Mark Reg' under right hand wing. Silver plated bronze. Approx, 18cms. in height. The mascot comes with a report from the Birmingham Assay Office confirming that the plating is silver. It is also featured in an article in The Anchor News Report from The Birmingham Assay Office. It is believed this may have been some form of ''trials' or experimental mascot due to the non-standard markings and evidence of a number '2' etched into the underside of the hollow base. Good condition and mounted on plinth.
A silver circular powder compact, the exterior with engine turned decoration and fitted with a mirror, within the lid, the front applied with the enamelled badge of the Royal Artillery, Birmingham 1939, a silver circular tobacco box, with a sprung lid, London 1904 and an oval glass spirit flask, with a pull off plated beaker base, the silver top London 1888.
