A rare and important Chinese export punch bowl for the Royal Company of Archers, Edinburgh, the exterior painted with panels of The Crown above a bow, quiver, arrow tied together with a rope beneath a border of thistle, roses and the crown, the foot rim with gilt chain and arrow pattern, the underside foot with The Spens Crest and Motto `Si Deus Quis Contra` (If God is with us) above the monogram `JS` for James Spens, the interior with blue and gilt band, arrow and dot pattern above a floral bouquet (two hairline cracks) circa 1800, 30.5cm diameter. The Royal Company of Archers were founded in 1676 as a private archery club. Since 1822 the company has performed the role of sovereign body guards in Scotland. Amongst the competitions and traditions The King`s Prize was, together with The Royal (Queen`s) Prize of the Goose, The Edinburgh Arrow and The Silver Punch Bowl and ladle were fought for amongst the members.. It was The King`s Prize Prize that James Spens (1797-1870) won in 1804. Not only did he win this bowl, it was part of a set of three bowls, this one being the smaller of the set. To this day the Royal Company of Archers still process the other two bowls in their collection. Notable members of The Company were Sir Walter Scott and Sir Henry Raeburn
A Continental toddy ladle, the white metal bowl with wavy rim, whalebone handle and white metal cap engraved initials "A.L.", 12 1/4in. (31cms) long; together with another toddy ladle, with oak bowl, white metal bindings, twisted whalebone handle with white metal cap, 12 1/4in. (31cms) long. (2)

A rare Victorian part matched silver flatware service, of a dog nose type pattern (see Pickford`s silver flatware, page 152, no 241 for this pattern), comprising twenty four table forks (eighteen by William Theobalds, London 1842 and six by Henry John Lias and James Wakely, London 1880), eighteen dessert forks (fourteen by William Theobalds 1842 and four by Henry John Lias and James Wakely, London 1880), six dessert spoons (three by William Theobalds, London 1842 and three by H J Lias and J Wakeley, London 1880), three teaspoons (two by William Theobalds, London 1842 and one by H. J. Lias and J Wakely, London 1880), one soup ladle by William Theobalds, London 1842, total weight 142ozs (52).
A circular silver ring box, the cover engraved with a floral spray, velvet lined, Birmingham 1913, maker H. M., 7cm diameter, also a late Victorian oval silver embossed pin tray, London 1881, makers J. R./S. J., 11cm long, a silver topped glass dressing table jar, a silver topped caster and a plated cream ladle (5).
A George III silver Old English pattern sauce ladle, London 1800, by Eley and Fearn, also an early George III Old English pattern table spoon, London 1770, a George III pair of thread pattern sugar tongs, London 1801 by William Eaton and a Victorian pair of tongs, London 1883, total weight 6ozs (4).
