All monogrammed, in two brass bound oak cases with brass plates, one engraved ‘John Scrini’, one fitted inside cover with trade card. John Scrini (1865-1945) was born on 12 January 1865 in Beirut. He moved to London and became a merchant trader at the Baltic Exchange. In 1909 he married Mina Sechiari at the Greek Orthodox cathedral in Bayswater and the date of the canteen makes it a possibility that it was a wedding gift. Although they had an international lifestyle, the couple lived at 153 Gloucester Terrace, Bayswater after their marriage and John became a British citizen in 1915. After John died, Mina remained living in London until her death in 1967.
