A Russian enamel decorated silver gilt coffee service Comprising: twelve coffee spoons, a pair of tongs and a ladle, housed in a plush lined case inscribed Peter Hertz, Copenhagen; and a typed letter of provenance inscribed This coffee service was the Copenhagen exhibit at the first World's Fair 1892-93. Mr Frederick I Pratt of Boston, Massachusetts, expressed a desire to purchase it but as an exhibit may not be purchased as an exposition. It had to be returned to Copenhagen. After 11 months it came back to Mr Pratt who presented it to my sister, Helen, as a wedding present on July 20th 1893. The case 25.5 cm wide. CONDITION REPORTS: Generally in good condition, tongs slightly misshapen, some general wear, some wear to case.
