A George II Irish silver regimental soup ladle, The Royal South Lincolnshire Militia, possibly by Jonathan Pasley, Dublin 1757, circular bowl, the terminal engraved 'Rl. South Lincoln', length 35.5cm, approx. weight 6.5oz. Provenance: a Private Collection of Regimental Silver. The South Lincoln Militia was raised at Boston in July 1759. The 'Royal' was given to the unit by George III after it marched to defend Liverpool against a possible attack by a French naval squadron under Captain Thurot. In 1798 five hundred men of the regiment were deployed to Ireland during an abortive Irish rebellion.
