An opal and diamond ring, the oval cabochon opal within a border of twenty-two old cut diamonds, in white bezel and millegrain settings, to a yellow forked shoulder plain polished shank, total estimated diamond weight 0.66 carat approximately, finger size K The ring is in good condition. It bears no hallmark, but is stamped `18CT` and in our opinion it would test as gold. The approximate qualities of the diamonds are; colour I/J/K, clarity SI1/SI2/I1. Gross weight 6.4 grams. It is hallmarked with maker`s mark `J&P`, London, 1973. The approximate qualities of the diamonds are; colour K/L/M, clarity I2/I3. Gross weight 6.8 grams. CR made 21st March 2013
John Blackhurst, Crewe, an 18ct gold open faced key wound pocket watch: the chain-fusee movement having a split bi-metallic compensating balance with underslung Bosley regulation, a fully engraved balance cock with c-scroll decoration and signed to the backplate John Blackhurst, Market Street, Crewe, the gold dial with raised and engine-turned decoration to the centre, raised gold Roman numerals to the chapter ring and a subsidiary seconds dial at VI o’clock, with blued steel spade hands, the case with engine-turned decoration to the back and rim, hallmarked for 18 carat gold, London 1873, with the casemakers initials J.V within an oval, diameter: 50mm. *John Blackhurst is recorded as working as both a watch and clockmaker in Crewe in circa 1878.
