An early 20th century diamond and ruby set snake ring, designed as two entwined snake heads, one set with a brilliant cut diamond, the other with a mixed cut ruby, continuing to a tapering unmarked gold coloured shank, ring size H ½ (at fault) together with a 9ct gold maple leaf brooch, realistically modelled with engine turned textured decoration, pin and safety loop fastening to reverse, import marks for Edinburgh 1983, 3.8cm long, together with a further 9ct gold leaf brooch, marks for Birmingham 1964, 3.3cm long, gross weight 5.2gms (3)CR; Ring: Good order. All stones are present, moderate abrasion and wear to the ruby, but diamond is in tact. Details to the snake heads and shank are heavily worn. Signs of repair to the shank - shank is possibly later.Brooches are in good order. Some light scratching and wear, but no major denting, damage or repair. Pin and safety clasp in good order.

This stone has not been tested for heating/ treatment. Through 10x magnification, colour banding is visible. In reflected light, some small crystals are visible, and there are some faint fingerprint inclusions - these occur naturally, but can be indicative of heat treatment.There is moderate abrasion and nibbling to the facet edges of the sapphire There is a small chip to the girdle. Stone shows moderate scratching and wear overall. The claws are secure. The diamonds are in good order, no cracks, chips or losses. We are unable to provide colour and clarity grades due to the setting, however the estimated clarity of the stones is SI/VS, and the stones appear bright and sparkly face up, with a minor draw of colour. The claws are secure.The shank shows moderate scratching and wear, and some thinning, but no splitting or signs of repair. Marks for Sheffield 2005.

One of the outer rubies shows moderate abrasion and chipping around the facet edges. All rubies show moderate scratching and wear. Please note, these rubies have not been tested for synthetic or natural origin, no have they been tested for treatment. All diamonds appear to be in good order, no cracks, chips or losses. All settings appear secure. The inside of the shank shows moderate scratching and wear consistent with use, but no splitting or signs of repair or major thinning. This piece would benefit from professional cleaning.

A diamond five-stone ring, comprising five old cut diamonds (estimated total diamond weight of 0.35ct), all bezel set in white gold to tapering yellow gold shoulders and plain polished shank, ring size M 1/2, weight 4.1gmsCR; There is a chip to one of the star facet of the central diamond, and a chip to the girdle. There appears to be no cracks, chips or losses to the other stones. All stones show some scratching, wear and abrasion consistent with wear. There are some gaps between the girdles of the diamonds and settings, but all stones appear secure. There appears to have been some repair to the settings on the outer diamonds, but no other splitting or damage. The shank is in good order, no splitting, thinning or signs of repair.

Lot 263

A Victorian diamond, pearl and enamel mourning ring, the oval panel set with a central rose cut diamond (measuring 4mm x 3mm), within a surround of seventeen seed pearls, vacant glazed compartment verso, 13mm x 9mm, set to an unmarked gold coloured engraved shank with black enamel floral detail, ring size K, weight 3.3gms (at fault)CR; All stones are present and in tact. No chips or losses to any stones, though they do show general scratching and wear. There is is heavy glue repair around a few of the seed pearls on the border (this can be seen on the right of the ring in the first picture). The settings are very worn in some places, and while the stones current appear secure, future repair may be required. There appears to have been some solder repair to the sides of the head (see additional pictures). The cover of the compartment is slightly loose, and may need some repair to make it more stable. There is heavy scratching and wear to the black enamel flowers on the band, and some small areas of loss. No signs of splitting, resizing or repair to shank.

A Victorian mourning ring, designed as a central glazed rectangular compartment containing hair, engraved 'JH to LW' verso, within a cluster surround of seed pearls, 11mm x 8mm, continuing to seed pearl set split shoulders and gold coloured engraved floral shank, ring size N 1/2, weight 3.0gmsCR; A small chip to one corner of the central glazed panel, moderate scratching and wear. The panel is secure, though the gold coloured surround is quite worn. All pearls to border are present - a few show small breakage and losses. Possible signs of glue repair around of couple of pearls. All stones are currently secure but the settings are very worn and future repair may be required. Pearls to shoulders all present, one appears to have some possible glue repair. Settings are worn, but pearls appear secure. Possible signs of repair around the shoulders inside the shank. Engraved shank is in good order, no splitting, resizing, major thinning or major damage. Please see additional images.

There is a small chip to the bottom right of the pendant, about 2mm wide. Under reflected light, several hairline cracks/crazing can be been. On the reverse there is hairline cracks/crazing and a few areas of shallow pitting.There is indication of adhesive repair to the back of the pendant around the frame (see pictures). There is some light denting, scratching and wear to the frame. There appears to be a small split where the pendant loop meets the frame, but this may just be a seam. The chain appears to be in good order, some wear and scratching, but no breakages or signs of repair. Please see additional pictures.
