Fine Sabbadini diamond and ruby ring, the heart-shape diamond weighing approximately 5.29 carats, in rub-over setting, the bombe-shape bezel with invisibly set square cut rubies, on 18ct yellow gold shank, signed - Sabbadini. Accompanied by a GIA Gem Trade Laboratory Diamond Grading Report dated 5/02/94, stating the stone to weigh 5.29 carats, clarity grade SI2, colour grade J, together with a certificate from Sabbadini, Milano CONDITION REPORT The diamond report gives the measurements 11.73mm x 12.08mm x 6.38mm. Weight 5.29 carats. Florescence - none. Comments - pinpoints, internal grain line and surface grain lines are not shown. The certificate from Sabbadini gives a carat weight for the rubies of 6.08 carats. One ruby is chipped. General condition is good with wear commensurate with age and use. Ring size difficult to measure precisely as it has a wide bezel and shank. Approximately K - L. Buccellati, Italy'. Ring size approximately M. Accompanied by a GIA Diamond Grading Report dated 14th April 2015, stating the diamond to weigh 8.50 carats, colour - J and clarity - VS2. Provenance: Purchased from Christie's Geneva Magnificent Jewels 16th November 2000 CONDITION REPORT The GIA Certificate is dated April 14th 2015, giving the measurements 14.78mm x 10.53mm x 6.37mm. Carat weight 8.50 carats. Colour grade - J. Clarity grade - VS2. Florescence none. The ring was purchased from Christie's Sale of Magnificent Jewels in Geneva 16th November 2000 and we believe CHF 129,250 ($75,064) was paid. Fine quality craftsmanship, signed on inside of shank. Very good condition. Total gross weight approximately 18.1 grams

Of Waterloo Interest: Rare Georgian gold (18ct) memorial ring with roped border and cast 'In Memory Of' to the outside and finely script engraved to the inside 'Lt. Gen'l Sir Thos. Picton G.C.B. died 18th June 1815 Aged 57' (hallmarked 1815), 10mm deep. Ring size Q. Provenance: Lt. General Sir Thomas Picton G.C.B. was the highest ranking officer killed at the Battle of Waterloo. He famously led his troops into battle in a top hat and tailcoat and was killed by a musket ball wound to his temple whilst leading a successful bayonet charge. The Duke of Wellington called him 'a rough foul-mouthed devil as ever lived' but valued him. This rare memorial ring may have been part of a limited number given to the senior mourners at Picton's funeral or made for a close family member, such as his brother John Picton (1767 - 1837)
