A 17TH CENTURY ROSE-CUT DIAMOND "HAND IN HEART" RING cut-down collet-set in white metal with a pear-shaped rose-cut diamond, c.7.5mm x 6.4mm, with a triple rose-cut diamond collet-set crown surmount, the unmarked yellow gold shank with scroll carving and open hand shoulders. See illustration Provenance: Private collection, Dorset. According to a letter from the relative who bequeathed the ring it is referred to as "The Strafford Ring". Apparently according to the letter it has descended from the Earl of Strafford, commonly known as the Black Earl, and thence by descent within the Knight family.
