The opals themselves are a little abraded to the top of each cabochon, however there is no significant sign of cracks or chips. The smaller diamonds are secure and all the claws present. The shank of the ring is in likewise reasonable condition. Overall showing honest signs of moderate wear.

The main cabochon stone is even in colour but does show some light scuff marks in general commensurate with age and moderate usage. The centre stone is securely set with no damage to the claws. The surrounding diamonds are likewise securely set with no visible damage or obvious sign of previous repair. The shank is in good order. We are not qualified to comment as to the stone being heat treated or not.
An 18th Century Oak Longcase Clock by Chaplin of Ashby (de-la Zouch), the 12ins square brass dial with silvered chapter ring, with Roman numerals, to the eight day two train movement striking on a bell, in associated oak and mahogany case with moulded scroll pediment and turned and fluted pillars to hood, shaped trunk door crossbanded in mahogany and inlaid with ovoid shell motif, conforming plinth base, 84ins high Note: Chaplin of Ashby recorded as a clock maker circa 1750Condition ReportExternally the case appears to have been subject to some refreshment over the years, showing signs of repolishing. The base to the finial appears to be a later restoration, however the finial appears correct and likewise the other decoration. The plinth is in good condition, likewise the dial. The gilding to the dial is in excellent condition. The hands are bright and may be a later replacement and the gilding to the centre of the dial is showing some mottled patination in general. The glass is in good condition and shows no obvious signs of cracks or chips. The front door has numerous cracks round the perimeter to the veneer and two particularly notable ones near the closing latch. The pendulum is present and appears original, likewise the winding handle. Enclosed with the item to the interior is a receipt dated June 2009 listing repairs in the nature of a full service including bushings, repairs to the pendulum, dial married up to the movement of the clock, repaired the plate of the dial, removed gold paint and polished, chapter ring, filled black numerals and replaced missing screws, resilvered and lacquered. The invoice was for the sum of £390 and was carried out by a company called Alanns who is a member of the British Watch and Clockmakers Guild. Note: The clock has not been tested.
