Dated 1697 AD. A gold 'memento mori' finger ring with keeled profile, low-relief skull to the outer face, italic inscription to the inner face 'M. Henshaw ob 15 June 97æta 69' and maker's mark 'I·C' (perhaps John Cam of London"). See Jackson, Sir C.J. English Goldsmiths and Their Marks, London, 1921. 2.34 grams, 18.52mm overall, 15.79mm internal diameter (approximate size British K, USA 5 1/4, Europe 9.95, Japan 9) (1/2"). Private collection, Cambridgeshire, UK; acquired prior to 2000; previously in an old jewellery collection; by repute from the Moore Hall estate, Old Harlow, Essex. Fair condition.

A sheet gold diadem comprising a raised central panel, two arms and attachment rings; the repoussé figural panel representing a horse brought down by two predators (mountain lions?) biting at the neck and hindlegs; two repoussé arms attached to the panel with a reinforcing strip to the reverse, each decorated with a basketwork patterns, rolled rim over a beaded border, ring to each end. 123.17 grams, 17.5cm (7"). Property of an American gentleman; acquired from Mr Michael Varshitsky, Berlin, Germany; formerly in an old private European collection; accompanied by a copy of the hand written invoice dated 22 August 2001. Fine condition.
