Circa 1100-1300 AD. An iron sword with parallel double-edged blade of lenticular section, decorated with an inlaid gold star. A rounded tapering tip, slightly enlarged at the forte, an iron hilt with ring quillons, strongly curved downwards, quadrangular shallow pommel in iron. The Crusades (1096-1272 AD) were a series of significant military actions in the Near East fought between the Christian and Saracen armies with the original goal of capturing Jerusalem. The crusades led to the formation of important military orders such as the Knights Templar, Knights Hospitaller and Teutonic Knights. Richard the Lionheart was the most famous of the crusading kings. A Hellenistic-Ptolemaic bronze ring fragment, set in a solid gold post classical ring featuring a hoop. The bezel embraces the high relief depiction of a female figure, portrayed in profile, facing left, with her hair arranged in a braided high coiffure. Although the identity behind the figure remains a mystery, the figure is identified with the Ptolemaic queen, Berenice II. Circa 200-300 AD. A beautifully formed hollow gold D-shaped ring with simple band shank which widens at the shoulder to support an oval bezel set in amethyst gemstone, finely engraved with a depicted of Cupid holding weapons. Very fine condition. This ring reflects the traditional style for the depiction of cherubs, with ringlets of youthful hair and a round chubby face. In Roman mythology, Cupid (known as Eros to the Greeks) was the god of love. He is generally represented as an aesthetically chubby boy with wings, who carries a bow and a quiver of arrows. Ramesside period, circa 1292–1069 BC. A finely modelled swivel ring featuring a gold bezel with incorporating a steatite scarab inscribed with Amun-Ra and a Crocodile possibly a representation of Sobek. The swivel ring originated in Phoenicia and was extremely popular across the Mediterranean basin in Antiquity, similar items having been found in Cyprus, Greece, Egypt and Etruria. Circa 400-600 AD. A Roman early Byzantine gold double-hooped ring, decorated with various gemstones. Two oval bezels feature to the sides and are set with a rich purple amethyst stone. A cone-shaped bezel sits in-between, enclosing a bright green emerald. Stylised discs decorate the top of each bezel whilst gold beads decorate the bottoms.
