German Third Reich. SS Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler Officer’s sword circa 1934-36 by WKC.A fine and very rare example carried by an Officer of Hitler’ Personal Bodyguard. Heavily silver plated lion head pommel with green glass eyes, ornate backstrap, oakleaf ornamented knuckle bow and ferrule, crossguard terminating in further lion’s head; obverse langet wear integral SS Sigrunen, reverse with LAH cypher. Plated 81 cm plain slightly curved blade with single fuller, bearing WKC knight’s head logo on the ricasso, housed in its black enamel painted scabbard with single loose suspension ring. Very minor service wear VGC.Note. From 1934 until 1936 SS Officers were permitted to wear a variety of swords similar to the Army but with silvered fittings in place of gold. In 1936, the more familiar SS Degen sword was introduced and all Officers were required to wear this pattern.
