A diamond and enamel ladybird ring, the black enamelled band with eight cut diamond accents, suspending a red and black enamelled ladybird with eight cut diamond accents, stamped with an Italian control mark, approximately 0.09 carats total, finger size E 1/2, 6.7g gross Condition Report: The control mark is 1888al, the ring has been resized, the black enamel to the band has been re-enamelled, there is a big chip to the ladybirds head, a small one to one of its wings, there is some solder to the setting joining the ladybird to the ring. The second ring one of the rubies is not properly in the setting, it would need to be properly set, they are bright stones, the diamonds are bright and lively, principal diamond SI1, colour H/I. A George III hardstone fob seal, early 19th century, the oval cornelian panel carved with a family crest for a descendant of the STEWART family and motto Salus Per Christum Redemptorem, 3.1cm long, with a pierced fluted gold setting, 4.1cm high, with a split ring suspension hoop, 15.7g gross Condition Report: There are lead solder repairs to one of the gold fluted panels and to the suspension loop, wear commensurate with age and use, some thinning to the split ring, the panel appears to have been glued into the setting. These are the Scottish arms of the STEWART family. However this is an obscure branch which is currently unable to locate. The blazon: or, a fess chequy azure and argent, overall a lion rampant gules Crest: a pelican on its nest vulning her young proper Motto: SALUS PER CHRISTUM REDEMPTOREM The main shield has the arms of Robert III (1337-1406) King of Scotland (1390-1406), birth name John STEWART. It is he who is the ancestor of the many STEWART families branches. That our image shows only his original arms, unquartered as would be expected, would appear to suggest that the owner is most likely to be identified by the crest. There are a number of STEWART family options with this crest and they are: of Moray, of Burray, of Banchory, of Calder Park, of Kilburn House. The motto used appears to be for Morray, however not the Earls of Morray but one of their cadet branches and it is amongst this branch that an identification might be made.
