A FAMILLE VERTE 'AUSPICIOUS FLOWERS' BOWL, LATE QING DYNATYChina, Qing dynasty (1644-1912), 19th century. With deep rounded sides, rising from a straight ring foot to a broad everted rim, painted in polychrome enamels, iron-red and gold, the interior with a floral border and a flower in the center, the exterior with three sets of floral sprays including peonies, buddha hand citruses, peaches, and other auspicious flowers, all below a floral border. The recessed base with an apocryphal six-character Kangxi mark within a double circle.Provenance: Holzapfel collection, Geneva, Switzerland. The gilt upper section of the comb is decorated in repousse with stylized prunus blossoms issuing from scrolling vines and two leaves reminiscent of fishtails, all reserved on a ring-punched ground and enclosed by beaded, diapered, and floral borders.Provenance: J. A private collector, acquired from the above. Julius Eberhardt (1936-2012) was an Austrian architect and passionate collector of ancient Chinese art. He often bought from J. J. Lally in New York. Heavily cast bell with broad shoulders, convex waist, and thick ring-form lip, decorated with foliate designs to the crown and with the handle rendered with concentric, Vajra-like ridges, surmounted by an elephant within a floral gate. The clapper cast separately and attached to a loop inside the bell.
