A WELL-MADE WORKING SCALE MODEL OF AN R.A.F. HIGH-SPEED RESCUE LAUNCH modelled by W. Greenhalgh in the late 1940`s with carved wooden hull, removable superstructure to internal compartments with electric motor, drive shaft, propeller and friction rudder, further details include raised anti-aircraft quick-firing gun turrets, ventilators, jolly boat and folding communication mast with radio aerials, mounted on a cradle stand and contained in a canvas-fronted travelling box. Model measurements - 16 x 35in. (40.5 x 89cm.), Finished to a high standard for the period of modelling, this model appears to have never been run.
A Maxirak one inch scale model of a live steam Sentinel flat bed lorry, fitted with Cheddar vertical boiler being gas fired with fittings including pressure gauge, sight glass and safety valve. Undertype steam engine with inline twin cylinders 7/16th inch bore by 7/16th inch stroke with differential and chain drive to back axle, condenser tank, inline displacement oiler, gas tank with control valve and associated copper pipework. Servo controlled steering and steam regulator. Dash Saber radio control set. The model finished in green and black paintwork. Length 23 inches (59cm). Cab Height 10 1/2 inches (27cm). A model of the live-steam launch `Victoria` , built from a `Krick` of Germany kit and fitted with a steam plant comprising a twin cylinder vertical steam engine having reversing gear and a gas fired vertical boiler with sight glass. The model finished to a high standard with mahogany planking from bow to stern and glazed cabin, fitted interior, brass deck fittings and rope fenders. The boat comes with a Futaba FP-T2NBR two channel digital proportional radio control set, fitted servos operating the engine control and rudder. Original instruction books, 100cm long. RYAN JOHN: (1921-2009) British Animator and Cartoonist, creator of Captain Pugwash. An original 14 x 5.5 black pen and ink cartoon strip, drawn and signed by Ryan, being one of his Captain Pugwash strips published in the Radio Times, 3rd June 1960. The four panel cartoon features Captain Pugwash in the final panel. Signed and dated by Ryan in the third panel. With various publishers annotations in pencil to the lower border. About VG
OSWALD LEE HARVEY: (1939-1963) American Marine, Assassin of President John F. Kennedy, 22nd November 1963. Extremely rare A.L.S., Lee, two pages, 8vo, n.p. (Minsk, Russia), 28th June (1961), to his mother in Texas. Oswald informs his mother that it is not necessary for her to pay him back some money although adds that, if she decides to send him a package, he would like a can of shaving foam, a razor and `pocket novels westerns and scicenace [sic] fiction-Time or Newsweek magazine, chewing gum and chocolate bars….I very much miss sometime to read you should try and get me the pocket novel "1984" by Wells` [sic; George Orwell]. Oswald further states that he is employed as a metal worker at the local Radio plant which is close to him. In a postscript he remarks `Marina sends a big hello to you also!`. Neatly preserved in light, flexible acetate. VG. Oswald emigrated to the Soviet Union in October 1959 and was given a job as a metal lathe operator at the Gorizont Electronics Factory in Minsk. While in Minsk he met Marina Prusakova and they married less than six weeks later on 30th April 1961. During his thirty month stay Oswald was under constant surveillance by the KGB. The letter is accompanied by photocopies of the original Charles Hamilton auction catalogue where the letter was first offered for sale on 28th September 1967. (Lot 371, hammer price $775)
