Movie poster for a film, adaptation of The Illustrated Man that was released in 1969. It was directed by Jack Smight and starred Rod Steiger, Claire Bloom, and others, including Don Dubbins. The film contains adaptations of "The Veldt," "The Long Rain," and "The Last Night of the World"[7] and expands the prologue and epilogue with intermittent scenes and flashbacks of how the illustrations came to be.The Illustrated Man is a 1951 book of eighteen science fiction short stories by Ray Bradbury that explores the nature of mankind. A recurring theme throughout the eighteen stories is the conflict of the cold mechanics of technology and the psychology of people. It was nominated for the International Fantasy Award in 1952. The unrelated stories are tied together by the frame device of "the Illustrated Man", a vagrant former member of a carnival freak show with an extensively tattooed body whom the unnamed narrator meets. The man's tattoos, allegedly created by a time-traveling woman, are individually animated and each tell a different tale. All but one of the stories had been published previously elsewhere, although Bradbury revised some of the texts for the book's publication. The book was made into the 1969 film starring Rod Steiger and Claire Bloom, adapted from the stories "The Veldt", "The Long Rain", and "The Last Night of the World". A number of the stories, including "The Veldt", "The Fox and the Forest" (as "To the Future"), "Marionettes, Inc.", and "Zero Hour" were dramatized for the 1955-57 radio series X Minus One. "The Veldt", "The Concrete Mixer", "The Long Rain", "Zero Hour", and "Marionettes Inc." were adapted for the TV series The Ray Bradbury Theater.Country: USA. Year: 1969. Artist: Unknown. *Everett (Kenny, 1944-1995). A group of five original master tapes of Kenny Everett's pre-recorded programmes produced for Radio Victory, Portsmouth, 1976, each recorded on Emitape reels, one with handwritten recording report completed by Keith Butler, a second one apparently completed by Kenny Everett for 2nd May, contained in original card boxes, two with Radio Victory labels and identified as recordings for 25th April and 2nd May 1976, one with label marked Victory and one marked 'Last Victory Show', 27 x 27 cm A CD transfer of each 50-minute programme is included with the lot. The content of each show is typical, madcap Everett in full pomp, playing tunes of the day, with occasional nods to Beethoven, Bach and Europop, the whole interspersed with Everett's trademark joking, humour and quizzes. Being pre-recorded there are no commercial adverts on these tapes, merely references at the points in the programme when Radio Victory would have broadcast these adverts. Also featuring on these tapes are performances of Everett's self-penned and performed radio serial Captain Kremmen. A rare slice of British radio history. (5)
