Marconi Wireless Telegraph Company of America, a group of 6 certificates for 'less than 100 shares' of $5, all 19[12], no.04289, 04290 and 05551-54, ornate border, vignette at top of Lady Justice between two globes, blue and black, good very fine. (6) Italian physicist Guglielmo Marconi's new invention was patented in England in 1896. Following this Marconi formed the Wireless Telegraph and Signal Company with the help of his cousin Jameson Davis, and this was later renamed the Marconi Wireless Telegraph Company in 1900. Being a British owned company much of their work was initially based in England and Europe, but Marconi's radio-telegraphy system became more widely recognised following the America's Cup in 1899 where his system was used to communicate between ships and the newspapers in New York City on the progress of the yacht race. Harry Kernoff RHA (1900-1974) VAL VOUSDEN, ENTERTAINER, 1931 charcoal inscribed with sitters name centre left; signed and dated [9/31] centre right; dated and titled lower right 19 by 14½in. (48.26 by 36.83cm) Collection of Eugene and Mai Lambert Carlow actor, poet and playwright William Francis Maher MacNevin best know by his stage name Val Vousden was born in 1886. During the early decades of the twentieth century he was undoubtedly one of Ireland`s leading character actors. With the launch of the radio broadcasting era in Ireland he presented the very first light entertainment show on Radio Eireann and continued to be a regular contributor to Irish radio until he died in 1951.The Lambert Puppet Theatre was established in 1972 by its director Eugene Lambert (1928-2010). Located in Monkstown, County Dublin, it is the only purpose built puppet theatre in Ireland. With the rise of television in 1960`s the Lambert Puppet Theatre became a fixture in Irish broadcasting with their very first show Carta Húdaí which aired in 1962 for which Mai Lambert made the costumes and their ten children acted as puppeteers. The Lamberts continued to produce shows such as Murphy agus a Chairde 1963-1968, Wanderly Wagon 1968-1982 and Bosco 1978-1987. Eugene and Mai Lambert were keen art collectors, expressing particular interest in works which relate to entertainment such as this lot and lot 177 by Brian Bourke and puppetry images, lots 190-194.
