Lot 207

Fully restored with a myriad of OEM+ upgrades, a simply outstanding matching numbers example with just two former keepers, well known and much respected within the RS Owners Club. In September 1978, Ford introduced the RS2000 'Custom' which came fitted with 'Fishnet' Recaro seats, full door cards, clock and pod, centre console, 6Jx13" alloys, boot carpet, remote driver's door mirror and a black panel around the rear lights. In 1980, an RS2000 Custom was an extremely aspirational purchase, with the distinctive polyurethane 'droop snoot' front end and air dam, distinguishing it from any other Escort.Finished in Signal Red with a Chocolate Brown interior, this Escort RS2000 Custom was supplied new in June 1980 via the Ford main dealer E. Hodgson & Son Ltd. of Retford, Nottinghamshire to its original owner, a Mr Bentley of Sheffield. In July 1990 it was sold to its second keeper, a Mr Leathers of Alfreton, who had always wanted a 'new' or the 'best RS' but having never achieved this, sourced this one previous owner example from Sheffield. In 1991, Mr Leathers' desire for perfection meant that the car was fully stripped down, with new/genuine parts sourced, from as far away as Germany, whilst the body-shop worked on the car between jobs and at weekends. Two years passed before the bodyshell was fully completed and Mr Leathers took delivery of his 'rolling' project with the intention of finishing it, however other commitments resulted in it remaining unfinished for another 12 years before finally stalling. Our vendor heard, through a friend, about the RS and upon seeing the quality of the work done thus far, he just had to buy it. This was in August 2005, when it was moved into his sealed, dehumidified workshop and when time and monies allowed, it was painstakingly finished – this wasn’t until 2016 – but it was well worth the wait! It has been a regular attendee at RS Owners Club events and meets where it has garnered much admiration. The car benefits from many new/old stock (NOS) parts and some of the usual period upgrades including a 5-speed gearbox (fully rebuilt) with a quick-shift gear selector, 7" Ronal alloy wheels, new back axle, NOS Ford rear drums, a one-piece prop, new brake & fuel lines, an NOS fuel tank, 'Group 1' Bilstein rear shocks, front NOS Capri 2.8i struts with 'Group 1' inserts, 2.8i vented discs/calipers, single leaf rear springs, braided brake hoses, NOS Weber carb, an Ashley exhaust manifold and system, new radiator and hoses, electronic ignition and a rebuilt dashboard (including circuit foils and voltage regulator). Its original matching numbers engine was fully rebuilt by specialist W.S. Bates Ltd. of Nottingham (re-bored, new pistons, shells, bearings, valves etc.) with a lightly gas-flowed head, plus a period Ford push-button radio, NOS window/screen rubbers, NOS rear boot spoiler and a new brake master cylinder.Still proudly wearing its original registration number, and sporting its original interior, this two-previous-owners 1980s sports saloon is to be celebrated; these are great cars, with a proper following and deservedly so. The extensive rebuild is documented with photos and invoices, whilst the car drives and runs as well as you’d imagine. A genuine 'best-of-breed' RS2000 Custom, don’t miss it.Specification Make: FORD Model: ESCORT RS2000 CUSTOM Year: 1980 Chassis Number: GCATAC017650 Registration Number: OVL 314V Transmission: Manual Engine Number: AC01765 Drive Side: Right-hand Drive Odometer Reading: 96861 Miles Make: RHDClick here for more details and images

Lot 240

In superbly original condition, just 25,000 miles, with full service history and from 32-years ownership.   In 1986, the original Sierra Cosworth was a new kind of performance car - a blue-collar hero able to humble true sports cars. In 1988, Ford introduced the Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth, a more ‘discreet’ version, built using the four-door Sapphire bodyshell, first with the same rear-wheel drive layout as the three-door original, and then later with four-wheel drive; but even with a more restrained exterior, a plush velour interior and an executive four-door shell, the Sapphire was far from dull. The early rear-wheel drive cars had 204bhp from the YBB engine (205 block), a T5 gearbox, 7" x 15" lattice alloy wheels, front and rear spoilers, side skirts and Recaro seats. The rear-wheel drive cars could hit 60mph in 6.1 seconds. Despite the extra power and potential for greater traction, the later 4x4 Sapphire was slower to 60mph, reaching the speed in 6.6 secs. Approximately 13,140 2WD Sapphire examples were produced during 1988-1989; all were assembled in Ghenk, Belgium, with UK-built Ford-Cosworth engines. The car presented here is a 1989 Ford Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth (2WD) and is in super original, unmolested condition. First registered on 18th August 1989, this superb example has covered just over 25,000 miles within the same family since it was just two years old. Due to the owner's poor health, this Sapphire remained unused and garaged for over 20 years. A combination of diligent ownership, minimal use (due to circumstance) and sheer preservation, now means this ‘Fast Ford’ is in collector-quality condition. We are informed that this exceptional car still retains its original factory-fitted panels, factory-etched glass and its original paint throughout. The interior is described as showing virtually no wear on the switchgear or surfaces. Likewise, all the dials and switchgear are said to function correctly, there are no cracks or UV damage to the dashboard and the original Recaro seats remain in beautiful condition. The boot contains its original Dunlop Sport spare wheel and factory-fitted jack whilst the parcel shelf is straight and free from any aftermarket speaker holes. The original electronic sound system, ECU2 (including power amplifier) are also still in situ, whilst the factory-fitted 15" wheels are shod with period Pirelli P600 tyres. The brakes have been fully recommissioned, benefiting from new rear calipers, brake fluid and discs/pads.The accompanying service history file includes the original Ford service book, owner’s handbook, radio operation manual, numerous invoices, two Ford keys, old tax discs and MOT history certificates. If you are looking for an unmolested, original RS Cosworth, this is probably one of the worthiest candidates currently available. The lighter and rarer version of the Sapphire, this example is one for the Ford connoisseur and is offered at an attractive price guide, offering the new owner membership of the exclusive club of RS ownership.Specification Make: FORD Model: SIERRA SAPPHIRE RS COSWORTH 2WD Year: 1989 Chassis Number: WF0FXXGBBFJS34294 Registration Number: G399 MGH Transmission: Manual Engine Number: JS34294 Drive Side: Right-hand Drive Odometer Reading: 25115 Miles Make: RHDClick here for more details and images
