This is a live breast cast made from plaster of paris of Kerry Farrant. Kerry says ""I have taken part in this amazing project because at the age of 28 and 12 wks pregnant my life changed forever. Having to go through surgery to have my left breast removed while carrying my unborn baby was a difficult thing to face but I knew I had no choice as I needed to fight this awful disease all the way to the end so I could be here for my then 2 yr old daughter and the daughter I hadn?t met yet. Having one breast was a weird and scary experience getting young hip bras was near on impossible, but that was the least of my problems I had to still face my 6 sessions of chemotherapy and 15 sessions of radiotherapy oh yes and of course give birth. After 4 chemo?s and 34 wks pregnant I was inducted and my beautiful baby Esmay was born 3lb 14oz and perfectly formed. I went on to have the rest of my chemo and radio then herceptin. I?m 5 yrs since diagnosis now, I have had 2 further breast operations and although I don?t have any nipples or feeling in my breasts I?m happy with what I have and I?m happy to be alive I wanted to share my breast cast with everyone to show that you can still look normal and that surgeons can do marvellous things. My baby Esmay has just started school and I thank all the hospital staff that made it possible for me and her to be here today to share the experiences of life"". Kerry`s cast was painted by artist John Frith of Art by Frithy. ""When I was first asked to contribute to this amazing project, I was a little daunted about such a sensitive issue, but seeing the enthusiasm of Sue Smith and all the other ladies involved, how could I possibly say no? It took me a while to decide what to paint on the cast I was given, and it was hanging around the studio for a bit while I sought inspiration. Then it came, a pair of chimps! My technique is fairly loose; I have had no formal training and just do what comes into my head at the time with whatever materials are to hand!"" The approximate size of this cast is 15 inches x 8 inches. To post this item to you (1st class Special Delivery) a charge of £20 will need to added to this item. This is a live breast cast made from plaster of paris of Stephanie Fairbrother. Stephanie says. "" My story starts in June 2007 when I had a right breast mastectomy due to Stage 3 cancer. The invading article was apparent 5cm big which shocked me. The one thing which I begged my surgeon to keep was my nipple. I felt that I could cope with the whole operation if at the end of the day I still had the nipple which gave me the feeling that I was still a woman. I had a reconstruction during the same op and wow did it look good. Unfortunately the cancer came back in the lymph nodes in 2009 so another op was needed to remove those, all bar one of the little blighters were removed which then started me on a long road of chemo. After chemo came 5 weeks of 5 days of radio. I took that in my stride until the Monday after my last session and wow had I burnt. After that it was a year`s worth of herceptin, the leg aches continued on herceptin but I coped. I had been experiencing problems with the reconstructed breast so my Consultant (a fantastic lady - Mrs Celia Smith) wrote to the plastics department at Broomfield Hospital Chelmsford. Well 13 months later I was admitted for a DIEP op. My surgeon who I had only met the day before had major problems with me, instead of being in theatre for 7 hours I came out after 13 ! When I was opened up what I mess I looked as the implant had burst but was still encapsulated thank goodness. Things seemed to be going well until the 17th week after the op when I had a seroma which burst through part of the scaring and took most of the fat from the breast with it. Anyway to cut a long story short after four more ops and another seroma later we have decided liposuction is not for me as my body rejects it each time. We (my Consultant and I) will now have to discuss ways in which I can have a boob and be even sized"". Stephanie`s cast was decorated by artist Esme Crick. ""I realised this was a big project with lots of casts being taken from lots of women, who all were affected by breast cancer in some way, I decided to work with that `ripple effect`- you know, people helping people, women supporting women, men supporting women who support them. From immediate family to friends, to nurses, health staff, there`s this infinite network. If you can tap into that then the world is a better place. I sent out a message on Facebook just to see if anyone wanted to help by crocheting a flower. Amazing response, with over 120 flowers arriving through my letterbox, and friends handing me envelopes full of flowers too. Flowers came from all over the UK, and Australia, the USA and the Continent too. It was so touching, especially as some people had made their flower in memory of a loved one. Quite overwhelming. I used as many as I could on Steph`s cast, and just added a butterfly made by me as a symbol of me flying in to this project, rather than being the centre of it"".
