McCartney's previous application for a Japanese visa had been turned down in 1976 but on this occasion it was wavered. Upon his arrival, however, McCartney was arrested for drug possession - marijuana hidden amongst his luggage and the hood of one of his children. McCartney was jailed for a total of 10 days and Wings' music was banned from airing on the radio and television
