Paul Calle (1928 - 2010) and Chris Calle (B. 1961) "The Media Creates Indelible Memories" Signed lower right. Mixed Media on Illustration Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting originally appeared on the Republic of the Marshall Islands The 20th Century series 60? The Media Create Indelible Memories stamp issued July 15, 1998. When Germany's Hindenburg burst into flames upon arrival at Lakehurst, New Jersey, on May 6, 1937, news of the tragedy quickly spread. Throughout the nation, radio programs were interrupted to bring listeners eyewitness accounts of the disaster. Newspapers published photographs of the great airship being consumed by a spectacular ball of fire. Theaters put viewers "up close and personal" to the catastrophe through Movietone? news clips. No one who learned about it via the radio, newspaper or newsreels would ever forget the Hindenburg tragedy. This example of the evolution of the media into a "real time" delivery of the news underscores its development in the 1930s. In the decades to come, the media's ability to record and report events -- as they happened -- revolutionized people's perceptions of the world. Image Size: 9.75 x 15.25 in. Overall Size: 13.25 x 20 in. Unframed. (B16076 / B16077)

* EDWARD H CHISNALL, WINTER IS COMING oil on canvas, signed and dated September '81 70cm x 90cm Framed Note: Edward H Chisnall is a well-known artist, author and broadcaster who was born in Glasgow in 1942. He works from a "haunted studio" in his home town of Glasgow. His written works include Bell in the Tree: The Glasgow Story which was also broadcast as a series three times a day, every day of the week throughout 1990 by Radio Clyde (a copy of the book is included with this lot). His paintings rarely appear at auction but whenever they do, it is very obvious how much time it must take to complete each one. The level of detail is always impressive but it's Edward Chisnall's imagination which is even more intriguing.
