WW2 British SOE / Special Forces Type 3 MKII 'B2' Spy Radio. An outstanding original and near complete example of the pattern of radio carried in the suitcase by SOE agents in France or delivered by parachute in two purpose made transit boxes. This fine example is contained in its original transit metal cases. The radio is in very good condition and is complimented by original correct pattern components including: small Morse key. ... earphones. ... spares box. ... set of three tank coils. ... three crystals. ... screwdrivers... etc. The overall condition is very good, although not sold in working order, the vendor has informed us when acquired it was working. The 'B2' Radio Transmitter / Receiver is the most well know spy radio of WW2. Designed by Major John Brown of SOE Special Operations Executive at Station X it was to be used by agents and resistance fighters operating behind enemy lines. The original sets were fitted into plain leather suitcases, this worked well when moving the set around but became a problem as the sets were often stored in damp conditions and did not give sufficient protection when dropped by parachute. The metal drop cases were developed as per this set. These would survive parachute descents and storage in damp areas. One box was designed to carry the set, the other the batteries and could stand side by side for use. The radio proved popular not only with SOE, but with British Commando and special forces units. Offered as an historical item only; the instrument's accuracy is neither warranted or implied.
