1924 Coventry Eagle 350cc Model C35Registration no. CC 4758Frame no. 34316Engine no. 1Y/M 24994/M (see text)This Coventry Eagle Model C35 was purchased new as a motorcycle combination in July 1924 by Robert Owen Vaughan of North Wales, who used the machine at least until the outbreak of WW2. Among other things, Mr Owen used the outfit to collect and deliver radio accumulators to farms and houses in the Conway area. Nothing is known about the machine until it appeared in very poor condition, minus the sidecar, at a Beaulieu autojumble in the late 1980s. Then in a distressed state, the bike was purchased and sympathetically restored by the new owner. The current vendor, John Hodson, purchased the machine in February 1994. John is the Sunbeam MCC's Coventry Eagle marque specialist and author of the most comprehensive publication on the make: Coventry Eagle – The History of a Motorcycle Company.Last used circa two years ago, the machine has been kept dry stored in the garage under sheet since then and is only being sold due to John's advancing age and a recent hip operation. Following a period of inactivity, the machine will require re-commissioning before further use and thus is sold strictly as viewed. Accompanying paperwork includes old/current V5/V5C documents; an old-style logbook; expired MoTs (most recent 2012); assorted correspondence; invoice and purchase receipts; and a 1990 letter from VMCC Coventry Eagle marque specialist Ken Sheppard stating that he knew of no other surviving example. It should be noted that the V5C/V5 records the engine number prefix as '17' whereas it is actually '1Y'. Key not requiredFootnotes:All lots are sold 'as is/where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

The record (white/black promo Epic label printed 'Radio Station Copy') is in VG condition. With glossy playing surfaces, there are a number of light surface scuffs on both sides - though these are as stated light and to the surface (most likely caused by a worn stylus), a sample of playback produced no issues whatsoever. Matrix (machine stamped): XEM137850-1A & XEM137851-1A. The original heavyweight sleeve (with 'Epic Mono' sticker to the front and stamped 'Demonstration Not For Sale' to the reverse) is in clean VG+ condition showing a little foxing, light edgewear and the 'start' of a split along the bottom edge (this is only partial and not a complete seam split).

Lot 10

1982 Ford Escort 1.1 L 1100 cc 5 door hatchback 0nly 2017 miles Only 2017, yes 2017 miles, in totally original specification and time warp condition  Registration: NNL 36X Chassis:  SFAAXXBBAACY80833 Odometer: 2017 Transmission: Manual MOT: Exempt No Reserve   . One owner from new until 2012   . Original Ford rubber mats front and rear   . Ford main Dealer number plates front and rear   . Original Ford radio  Outside We believe the paintwork to be original and on the whole is very good, that said there are a number of what could be best described as "scabs" of surface corrosion all over the car. These have been treated to prevent spread or any penetrative corrosion and we feel it adds to the story of the car. All panels are straight and dent free and all four doors open and close as if the vehicle was factory fresh. The hub cap from the off side rear wheel is with the car but will not stay in place.  Inside  We urge any serious bidder to come and view the car and take in the smell of 1982 Ford's when you stick your head in, it takes you right back. Wonderfully basic, no wear at all and everything is in factory fresh condition.  Mechanicals Upon removing from long term storage, the engine and mechanicals were treated to a refresh which included new auxiliary belts and fluids. The car runs and drives as expected for a car with such low mileage, although there is some squealing coming from the auxiliary belts we suspect the water pump may need some looking at. It looks as though car was treated to a corrosion protection product to the underside, engine bay and door bottoms when new. History  We are advised that the car was supplied new by Ford main dealers Heaton Motor company of Consett, County Durham to a Midwife who lived locally. The car was used briefly until her unfortunate death when it was laid up by the family until 2012 when DVLA records show it went into fresh ownership. Sadly, there is very little other documentation with the car. Our Opinion  This is a unique opportunity to acquire what is quite possibly the lowest mileage MK3 Escort in existence. Inspection of the car clearly shows its minimal mileage is correct, it is on the button, will carry a fresh MOT and is ready to go. Lovely to see a surviving example of the 1.1 L variant , as most of the lesser Escort models were run into the ground and not preserved. A genuine time warp car and we love it. Find another.  Please note there is no V5c currently with the Escort though we are able to give an undertaking that we will assist the new owner with obtaining one as a condition of the sale.

Lot 16

1987 Volvo 480 ES 1721CC 3 door hatchback Guide; £2,000 to £3,000  Registration: E517LHV Chassis: XLBEX143EJC519500 Odometer: 31372 (Intermittent speedo fault)  Transmission: 5 Speed Manual Petrol MOT: Sept 2023 . Totally original specification • Complete with MOT certificates dating back from the first in 1990 • Two sets of keys • Original interior  • Very good bodywork  Outside • White paintwork presents very well with very few imperfections or blemishes • 2 rust spots to the roof panel approx. 2mm in size • Black plastic clean and free from any scrapes or imperfections • N/s rear wheel arch has had a previous repair and has a small bubble approx. 4mm in diameter • O/s rear wheel arch has also had a repair • All 4 wheels in good order with matching Goodyear tyres • Fitted tow bar (all Volvos should have one) Inside • Black and grey cloth interior is generally in very good condition • Headlining is sagging • Period correct Philips radio cassette player • Heated front seats • Typically Volvo functional interior Mechanical • Starts and runs well • Drives well through all the gears • Stops well and pulls straight under braking • Speedo has an intermittent fault recently reported by the vendor and occasionally doesn't read History • 5 former keepers • Previous owner for 24 years • MOT certificates from September 1990 through to June 2006 • Handful of invoices and receipts Our Opinion Volvo 480s are slowly finding their place in the classics market and this one is a great start to enjoy the Swedish manufacturer, rock solid build, quality and reliability.
